Talked to my performance shop today and he said it definitely wasn't a bad idea, he said most of the stock pumps fail early with 2500 miles or less if there faulty because there flawed from production. So after speaking with him he recommends the 10296 Melling pump if I'm going to do it. I want the peace of mind of the better quality pump. So I just spent some time online finding the best price and I found one for 130.49 shipped! Shop will charge me another 150 to install it. So for less then 300 it's a no brainer

Thanks for the update. Feel free to let us know how the rest of the diagnosis goes or if you have any questions.

I got it from AutoZone.Com online, which I was surprised out of the hundred vendors that they were the cheapest with a 20 percent coupon code and free shipping!
Check it out!

Just another FYI for everyone to consider: another VERY well known LS3 issue (and in fact L99) is a leaking rear main gasket on the oil pan. If your car doesn't sit for long, chances are that you may never even notice a leak. Best way to make sure is to physically get underneath the car and run your hand along the rear of the pan.

If the LS3 engines are suffering from this how come GM has not fixed this issue yet?

Thank you William. The nagging questions in my mind are
1. The oil pump issues seems to have some history dating back to 2010 and from my recent experience, there still appears to be issues - why hasn't GM addressed this yet? Is it not catastrophic enough in terms of the impact it has on the reliability of the engine, not enough failure count or no good solution is available?
2. It appears that there are alternative pumps that provide more performance and reliability - I realize there is probably an impact in the unit cost to the currrent release, but if you roll in the warranty dollars and voice of the customer is there not a business case to use the alternative?

Failure count is probably the best bet. You think the LS3 has issues, you should see how bad the LS7 was in it's first two years. I've seen quite a few Z06 owners give up the brand completely out of frustration. And yet, GM still chose to utilize the LS7 in the Z/28.
