1. I don't have a skip shift eliminator as I am sure the warranty would be impacted should the device be noted by a dealer. With that said, if it were installed and removed before taking it to a dealer perhaps it wouldn't be an issue. My thoughts are two fold. One is the ethical issue of installing it and trying to "beat" the system if you are racing the car... which I am sure Chevrolet would not back up the warranty due to driving conditions. Two... Chevrolet's design shouldn't REQUIRE one to go out and buy the device in order to defeat the system to make it more driveable (performance). 2. If a transmission has infantile failure (break in) it will most likely see that occur with hard driving during the first few thousand miles. Transmission metal debris, clutch surfaces, and any weak drivetrain parts (bolts not torqued correctly) will manifest themselves quickly if you are running the car hard. I did the oil analysis on my Tremec to see what status the gear oil was like at 2500 miles. The notations by the lab were not inspiring. With that said, there are magnets at the bottom of the trans that collect any debris you might shed from a "bad" shift. The Tremec is notoriously "notchy" even for a great version right out of the box. But they are built like little tanks too. Fairly forgiving. I personally have mis-shifted because I couldn't get the trans to shift correctly because of the notchiness. But I have also found the sweet spot when shifting and nailed some perfect shifts that Mario Andretti or Don Prudhomme would be proud of. Consistence is what we want out of these transmissions. Consistantly clean shifts through all RPM ranges. 3. It is logical to think that separating the two reservoirs would be the wise thing to do. I personally do not know why Chevrolet did the car this way other than saving money. Mechanically it makes SENSE to have them separated. From a debris standpoint it clearly makes sense too. Why they use DOT 3 over DOT 4 is anyone's guess as well but I am sure there are engineers out there with many letters after their name, that could explain this. My guess is the bottom line is the bottom line. I personally think I will add the additional reservoir because I put safety first and I believe it is a safe move. However, once again, I caution that this may be a warranty issue if you add or modify the existing stock setup. These are only my opinions and do not reflect anything stated or implied by any official GM representative either past, present or future. Buy the car and run the wheels off it! Enjoy life while you are young because it is too short and goes too fast. |

http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/NASApp/dom...section=oi_def They have switched back to the Tremec T56 for the 2012 model year. Now what about us?? |

Wow, very interesting! Did you notice the max torque spec of 385 ft/lbs? Doesn't take much modding to exceed that! This is a story for the front page of this web site if the mods can confirm it as fact!

And it's listed as "Maximum Engine Torque". The torque for a stock LS3 at the engine is 420 ft/lbs. So how does it make sense to use a transmission that's not even rated for stock specs?

Yea that's right! I was thinking rear wheel but the crank Tq is what the tranny needs to be spec'd at!

It's the 2012 online order guide - I should have posted the link directly to it:
http://eogld.ecomm.gm.com/NASApp/dom...age=7&butID=16 It's towards the bottom. By the way, if I missed something and I'm completely wrong, sorry for the stir. |

Right, I get that the torque rating doesn't make sense. But the T56 has been so far removed from this generation of Camaro AND Corvette thus far, so it's weird that this would be a misprint without anyone at GM noticing.

The only way this makes sense is if they adapted the T56 to fit the new V6 because of the improved HP/torque.
