Anyone know about 69 Pace Cars

This Camaro has been bounced around like a hot potato, been sold at 2 Barrett Jackson auctions, owner tried to Auction in Palm Springs, but couldn't get enough so no sale. Currently listed here http://www.carweek.com/dealer_listin...scapeHeader=No

Anyone an expert on these Pace Cars? Does this Camaro look legit? I'm guessing something has to be wrong with this one, since it's been bounced around so much...Thanks for anyone that can help...

It really depends on many things, an I am no expert, but a friend of mine bought a 67 z28 #53 or 63 (cant remember) of 602 total build. He bought it a BJ for around 35K, the car was all # matching, but had some small things that didn't quite make it super desirable for most high-end collectors. Such as not a lot of documented history, some paint flaws, some of the motor accessories parts were not original and such. He held on to it for a few years then sold it for 40+k, because he had enjoyed it and wanted something different. This car could be in the same boat, but hard to say with out doing some detailed investigation and talking with prior owners. Keep in mind that 3600 plus verts were made and only around 400-500 hard tops.

Thanks, I'll go on there and post it up to see. I'm going to see it tonight if they stay open late enough.

I believe BJackson will refuse to allow a fake across their block. Sold my Z11 a few years ago and wish I never did. She's on the east coast now.

The only numbers seen are on a not so good picture of the cowl tag. That's not good.
Lot's of good info and advice here too.

This is one of those deals where it needs to be inspected. Just by looking at the underbody pics it's missing the convertible x-brace which is replaceable but what else is gone would be the thought.

Thanks all for your input, I will definitely find someone knowledgeable to inspect the car after I see it in person, as sometimes pictures are not true reflection of car.

That is correct to a point if you are trying to pass it of as one then they will refuse, but do allow high quality tributes to be sold as a tribute. They generally are the ones sold in the first few days if you get selected. Not just any car will make the cut to even be in the auction and the closer to the weekend of the auctions the higher quality the car.

I also suspect that the car is missing details and why it is made it's rounds.

While this is a very nice car, I can not see it being worth so much, I have seen nicer ones for less. Look at the underbody shots, you can see areas where no restoration has been done, other areas you see it has been done. look up in the frame holes. Trans cross member rusting. Look at the pass side pipe coming off the header, welded way up too high and looks cheap, other side as well, oil pan dented, oil filter has oil on the bottom of it. Now I know that this car is well over 40 plus years old and will not be perfect, but for 60K, I would get a new ZL1.

Thanks, I really appreciate your observations, as I didn't notice the things you are pointing out. When you see something you want, sometimes you are not looking objectively at the potential negatives. The guy who owns it actually raised the price $5k after I called to ask about the car. So, I'm thinking this might be a pass, but I will go see it in person...

I think your guy may have it up on ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1969-...item43ac71c406
The nicest version I've actually seen the guy had it in one of those big plastic bubbles with a bunch of dessicant bags. 350-car and it still had the paper tags around the springs and the exhaust looked new.
These cars aren't seen that often anymore, and most won't actually drive them.

That was mine, and I still have the 30th Anniversary car.
