Had a similiar thread short time ago ...because i was confused by all the statements and claims that seems to put the mileage on the V8 and the V6 in the same range. sometimes making the appearance that V8 uses even less fuel on the highway then the v6... Well, didnt got to a conclusion...

If that would be really true, that one has to ask oneself why GM even did make V6 engines for that car. Cant believe for some or 1mpg less than the bigger engine?

I mean the epa highway test states a use of 25 mpg for the v8 and maxspeed in this test is 60mph. So if all you guys getting 22-25mpg on 80mph that would be really impressive. If at the same time v6 owner writing in threads that they get 21 at 80mph...then something seems odd. same goes for city mileage, where lot V8 seem to have a regular mileage of 18-19mpg, even higher rated as the epa city v6 numbers.

so what is the truth, whats the sense in claiming ones car does better than it does in reality? not very helpful for people who seek information.

So still would be interested, what V6 and V8 owners get if the are in flat unrestricted area and but cruise control on 30mph (for city sim, well somehow) and 80mph. then driving habits should fall out of the ocasion.

I have videos of getting 29-33 on the freeway. I also drive around 60 mph when cruising though. I could have gotten 8mpg if I wanted to. It's all about how you drive.

I got the mileage south of DC area of 95 where the traffic thins out and you can use the cruise control. I cleared everything back to 0 when I would fill up. 75 mph in 6th gear with cruise on.

The best I've gotten in my LS3 is 14 and I reached that yesterday. Everyday my mpg goes up .1 or .2 mpg.

I live in Pennsylvania, went to Delaware to buy a 2013 2SS Vert I had a 2012 2LT coupe. 220 miles one way, on the way out in the 2LT I got around 27 MPG coming home in the 2SS around 18mpg. A couple factors play into this

1- I know the dealer had 87 octane in the tank
2- Its a new car needs some break in time it only had 148 miles on it

I took the 2LT on a road trip 3 weeks ago put 1300 miles on it a lot of interstate averaged 27 mpg. I'm not calling anybody a lair I don't want to start a "web-war" Its just hard for ME to believe the V8 can get better mpg than the V6.

@ CamaroIOM12 : just out of curiosity. Would you say you have driven them both the same on your trip (even with excitment of the new ss)? But cool to have more firsthand experience numbers :-)

thanks camaroiom12 for the clarification. As you had the 2lt (and I am thinking of getting one. well only if the v8 is not within that ofthen claimed one mpg, than it even makes no sense in europe..) what was your mpg in town and at about 80 if you would remember?

In town I was getting around 20-22 mpg (when I wasn't having fun) I had a CAI with the scoop and water bottle relocate, and the Vmax ported throttle body. Honestly not sure what mpg you will get around 80 but when I traveled I usually set my cruise at 73 that's where I would average 27 mpg.

Posting a pic of your onboard MPG doesn't mean squat.. I can go downhill, reset the MPG and take a pic of it showing 99.9 MPG.

The only thing that will really tell you truly how you are doing, is trending data over a period of time.

I had created a spreadsheet that has some formulas that calculated rolling averages. But, I found a better way.

I setup an account on Fuelly.com (which is free).. It tracks all that, gives you graph options, and all sorts of data my spreadsheet never could.

you guys must live in some pretty flat areas to get that kind of mileage..

I've never been able to get 23+ MPG over the course of a tank.

I just got back from a 1,600-mile road trip to Vegas. I reset the MPG meter to compare it with hand-calculating the mileage at each fill-up. Keeping the cruise on at exactly 65mph, going to Vegas (which is coming down in elevation), I got 25.3 mpg, even though the car was saying 25.6. On the drive home, I was getting 24.1 (because of going up in elevation) and seeing 24.6 on the display. I was pretty impressed by how close it was. My car has a .646" lift cam, ADM twin pumps, LT Headers, no cats, 3" exhaust, Flowmasters, 9" rear with 4.10 gears, and 22" TSW's with P-Zero's all the way around. These cars are truly amazing for what they are and how little they cost (comparatively).
