Shift Light

Does anyone know if there is a decent easy to install shift-light kit available for the A6? I am looking to race using tap shift rather than having it shift itself and a shift light will make it a lot easier.

I do not see a reason. It will be the computer telling you when to shift... If the computer knows the best shift point... let the computer shift on the A6. Remove user error and delay.

Where I come from racing is also about the driver - if you let the computer do everything it takes the driver out of it. So really I am just controlling the launch and then that's it. For me - that takes a lot of the fun out of racing. I'd rather do the shifting like all the big-boys do at the track

If I wanted the computer to do everything then I might as well get more computer equipment and have it control every little thing like they do in the electronics class

Redline is not necessarily in the power band, especially with the mods I have done and my redline is not factory - and it also still takes away from the fun of shifting yourself.

I put in an AeroForce Interceptor multi-function gauge - connects to OBDII port and provides LED indicators for RPM threshold you program - see pics on post #1 this thread - http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=47343 . Still seeking a single gauge A-Pillar pod (the Fesler offering didn't fit well so returned it).

Its useful when running tapshift to remind you to "tap" when eg 2500rpm is exceeded though I've found I have a better feel of the rpms now with use of the tapshift.

I just purchased a G-TECH PRO/SS to use in my 2SS and 69. It provides a shift light along with other cool data.

http://www.gtechpro.com/

All you have to do is connect it to the 12v source and calibrate the RPM ie you do not have to tie it into your ECM system or tach. I hooked it up to my 69 this weekend and the rpm reading seems accurate. It rained here most of the weekend so I did not get a change to test the shift light functions.

Attached is a copy of the user's manual from their web site. I purchased mine from SummitRacing. Check out their web site for a video of it in use.

Dude, he asked if anyone knew where to get one. He did not ask your opinion about a shift light. I swear it seems like some of you have to put your 2 cents in no matter what!

Usually its the people that put in their opinion that suck at driving too. LOL. Autometer makes a mini shift light that I ran in my last camaro. You just tap it into the tach signal wire and pill it at what rpm you want it to come on at.

Also there is the raptor shift light which is what I would go with now.

We have the Shift-i Progressive Shift Light System that is easy to install and works perfectly. We use these lights in our 1000hp Texas Mile Corvette so we can keep our eyes on the road. Check the link below for more info.

To the OP:

I am not sure exactly what kind or racing you are about to do, but here's my suggestions....

1) Drag Racing: Leave the car in M, and it will shift faster than you ever will and at the right time.
2) Auto-cross/Road Track: Practice with the tap-shifters instead of putting money into a light that will down the road be useless, because you will have the feel for the rpms and won't even look at the light.

Just my 2 cents, otherwise that interceptor gauge is good, I don't have one though.

Have fun tearin up the track

I suggested a gear indicator on the DIC on a previous thread just so I could glance quickly to be sure what gear I was in. I have a SS/RS/M6 and sometimes I lose track of what gear I'm in. I thought a gear indicator would be more useful than some of the other info that is available on the DIC. OMG did I get ripped about my suggestion, I was told I couldn't drive, that I shouldn't own a manual transmission, that I didn't know what a tach was, and that I wasn't even qualified to own my Camaro SS. Like you have to be someone special to manually shift gears. I was truly insulted by some of the a-hole responses.

Keeping the above in mind, and risking being told I'm an idiot...I think a shift light would be more useful than many of the other DIC options you can view. Just like I think a gear indicator would be more useful as well.
