4th gen camaro a good buy or no?

I'm not too concerned about performance but gas mileage in the city, for an auto transmission.

Back in the day I REALLY wanted one of these, new, even though they were around $25k. Since then I kinda lost the mystique for them and they seem like a long boat but i might like one still... the newer style though, like 98-2002.

Would this be a good upgrade from an 83 z28 that's about to die?

The 4th gen is going to go down as one of the best performance packages of our time. The powertrain is great. LS1/T-56 combo is a proven great combo. I can't stay off the gas pedal and I still average 22 MPG to a tank with probably 80% city and 20% highway.

It would be an awesome upgrade. I have always felt that the 4th gen was just a more refined version of the 3rd. Keep in mind the rear-ends are not the strongest. Slicks will break them, street tires you will be fine though.

Don't leave out the durability factor. Cahange the oil on time, and they'll live forever. They're great cars, you should get one. I've had 3 fourth-gens, and they've all been great to me.

Well that's good to hear
Yeah they seem identical to my 3rd gen fbody.. It's probably the same exact car with tons of refinements right?

What exactly is a powertrain?

I hope I can find one in good condition, I'm really wanting a new-car style interior mostly

anyone have suggestions at what models I should look for in particular?

Yeah, if a glove box and a couple cup holders are what you mean by refined.
I'm on my fifth 4th Gen and just cant get enough of the LS1, it's such a great motor. You just cant beat the bang for the buck and they are extremely reliable if you just do basic maint.

well I suppose the motor is a big upgrade from an 83, the body style (I hate that matte feeling on my car, I want shiny!!!), Also the fuel injection would be a big upgrade I'd assume.. airbags..

I'm just hoping the general interior is a better quality. It SNOWS on me when I get in mine

I love the 4th gens, 120,000 miles and still running strong! Keep the maintenance up, and she'll never let you down.

141K here and runs strong as hell. Alot of guys on LS1tech say that these motors are good for 200-250K.

Now my current car is pretty big and these seem bigger/longer.. do you all find it to be a 'boat' or anything?

They are pretty close dimensionally. As a matter of fact the entire rear suspension is a direct swap out. The rear end is just about 2 inches wider in the 4th gen.

My dad might just be mr negative but I showed him a nice 2000 on craigslist and he goes "OH GOD NO!!! THAT'S A CLUNKER.."

He's probably thinking that cuz my 83 was so bad.. He says chevys disintegrate after 10 years..
Maybe if I inspected it though and it was fine..
