just for shits and giggles. pump the fronts up to 40 pounds and lets the rears down to 12. that should clear the code . If not then no one makes a front thats really any bigger in a skinny so you are stuck with that size, you need to find something thats a radial in a real 28 or more like a 275

Mickey Thompson make a 27.5/4.0 17 (27.8 actual Diameter)Tire that will be close enough to the rear tire size you have to not throw codes. I have not ever heard, though I am still learning, that you can't change tire diameter as much as you want to, so long as the difference from front to rear remains close.

OP, I'm guessing with a size like 305/45/17 they're Mickey Thompson tires. even on their website for that 17 inch tire size they show 27.9 inch diameter.

yes that is from a zl1....but there is no diff running those on a ss or zl1.a zli is 28.4/27.9 front/rear....a ss is 28.7 around. MT street er's on are right at 28 inches....if you are 28.5 to 27.5 on the fronts, you should be fine. you should be running a 28x6 up front

depends on the Mt tire. I run ET Street R's and they are 28.1 rears. My Mt Sportsman s/r are 28.

I run the street R’s in the rear also.

Looks like a tire change is the best option to bridge the gap.
I was told the tires I have were the best option for what I wanted to do and I went with it.
Shame on me I guess for not doing my own research.

are you saying you run the et street r up front? they don't make a street r for a 4-5 inch wheel....most would run a sportsman on the front skinnies

What size tire are you running on the front??? If it is more than 3% off from stock that can cause the car's computer to freak out as it is doing. Also if the difference between tire size front to back is too far off, that will also cause the car's computer to freak out as well. Since it's happy when you put the original ones back on it's pretty good bet your tires are the wrong size.

I may be out of the 5th gen world but still doing the same with my 6th gens, and I have extensively researched optional tire sizes since 2011.
Why would the computer freak out with the fronts if all the tire diameters are the same, only smaller or larger than stock? Wheel sensors are measuring counts in a given time. If all counts are within parameters, close to the same number of counts, there would be no code thrown. The vehicle would have to measure ground speed by gps and compare that with the speed calculated by the vehicle. Or perhaps the ecm or bcm would monitor the transmission output counts for speed and compare it to the number of counts from the wheel sensors. But then running steeper rear end gear ratios may/should be causing problems.
I agree, front and rear outside tire diameters are sized too far apart, thus different counts over a given distance.
The OP stated everything was ok when the stock wheels were installed back on the car. So that should negate any sensor or battery issues. For new wheel and tire combinations; programming the tpms, tire diameter, balance, clearance and fitment (correct lugs, lug pattern and preferably hub centric not lug centric) should be about it.
