Help!

So I was driving through a construction zone in traffic this morning and saw a good size dip in the road surface, but couldn't get around it due to the heavy traffic. I tried to hit it at an angle, but my passenger side muffler took a pretty big lick on the way out. It still sounds the same as it did before. No leaking or check engine lights. Only noticeable difference is the large dent in the muffler and the piping going to the passenger muffler is hanging a little lower than the one that wasn't hit. Is this something I should be worried about? I attached pictures below of both the muffler and the sagging pipes.

My guess is that one was already hanging lower and that is why it took a hit. If you tips are still aligned I wouldn't worry about it. The dent doesn't look very big in the pic and probably not noticeable except from under the car. Or you can use it as excuse to go aftermarket!

I don't think it would be a problem performance or reliability wise but I would probabley have to fix it because I am so anal about my ZL1.

I have the corsa on there already. That's why it was such a heart breaker

This pipes look normal when an aftermarket system is installed. Same way with my Corsa.

Maybe premature rust where the metal bent, but I'm no expert. I hate construction!!!!!

It would not hurt to have a professional look at it and give you an opinion.

I would contact the city and have them pay for it. They are responsible to ensure vehicles can manuver around construction sites they contract for. That is why they have insurance.

Agreed. Then swap the damaged part out.

But as far as reliability and performance goes, do you guys think it's okay?

As far a performance, if it a straight flow though design, I don't see any loss. As far as rust, I am guessing it is a quality stainless steel (since you said it is Corsa) and the rust protection is the alloy itself and not a coating, so I would not worry about that. The only concern I would have is any internal baffling coming loose, if the dent was at or near a connection point for the baffling.

Corsa is pretty good with their warranty. You may want to contact them and ask if they'll replace the muffler.

It might be too late now! That's something you have to do immediately while there on scene to time document it. They will now say it didn't occur there and to "prove it". But then again, maybe they'll do the right thing? Your exhaust is fine, looks like a dent. There is no reduction in exhaust flow so you are okay, just cosmetic damage and will mess with your head for awhile.
