next gen camaro four-cylinder ?
I hope GM sticks with v6 and v8 for the next camaro but it is possible that they could use a tc four-cylinder like the one in the regal gs it has 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft which is not bad for a 4 cylinder. I bet they could even get 300 hp and 300 lf-ft out of it by 2015. they could do this to get better fuel economy while keeping performance and appeal to a wider range of consumers like the ones looking at the 2.t genesis.
what do you guys think ?

Just wouldn'e be right ! Maybe have it as an option if someone wanted it . I think the way of the future is the turbo v6 and v8.

As long as they make it look like a toy! LOL! Otherwise, a muscle car has got to have MUSCLE! I just don't see a 4-cylinder Camaro appealing to a wide enough audience to be financially do-able for GM.

I see turbo and s/c being the future for many performance engines. The rest of the cars I think we will see 4 cylinders with turbos to achieve performance and efficiency.

If the next platform is the same size/market as vehicles like the 370Z and Genesis Coupe, I don't think there would be much of an issue. Heck even better if they can get it competitive with the FT-86 market as well.
But in all seriousness, so long as they don't repeat the mistakes of the past I think that the 4-banger would be a solid option. CAFE will probably necessitate a 4-banger, unless they get everything else to make up for the difference.

Since the plan is that the next Camaro will be much lighter, a four cylinder as a base engine sounds like a great idea.

The Subaru Impreza, and Mitsubishi Evos, manage to get 300bhp from their 4 pots, and coupled with a turbo, kick out hefty torque figures as well. Both these cars are easily chipped up to 400 bhp, which I don't think is too bad.
I guess changing the mindset particularly in America with regard to beloved V8s is the greatest stumling block. Engine technology has improved vastly since the heady days of the 1st gen Camaro, and Mustangs, when the cheap and easy way of making power was adding cubes. My view is that, in an overtly sporty car, there has to be enough motive power to create excitement, but how that is achieved is really not that important, be it massive V8, turbo 4, or even 2 or 3 rotor wankel. What can never be mimicked though is the glorious sound of a V8 starting up, or sounding like a world war 2 fighter plane in full song. |

screw a inline four camaro (dont make v4's). this car was never ment to have a 4 banger. you want one? go get a cruise go get a geo ANYTHING. This is a specal breed of car apart from the mundane everday driver car
I will say a turbo charged v6 stock would be EPIC. They got the ZL1 comeing out why not a turbo super v6?

It's possible and makes sense. But I'll go for the v6, thats o.k. and basically the replacement for the older smaller v8 choices of the 60's, but a 4 banger in the Camaro? No thanks! Get something else. This a muscle/ pony car not a Geo.
