L99 active fuel management system

The L99 engine has an active fuel management system that drops the used cylinders from 8 to 4 under light loads. Are there any concerns out there over this AFM system? I am not a fan and plan to order an LS3 6 speed to avoid it. Would like to hear thoughts from others...

Get the ls3 no afm. I got rid of my car because of AFM. You can buy a programer and turn it off along with your power tran warranty.

There have been several threads about sticky AFM lifters, and some people don't like the sound of the switches between 8 and 4.

I have found that as the engine breaks in, these symptoms reduce, and the A6 transmission is a pleasure to drive after 40 years of shifting cars and trucks.

But, when I was younger, driving an auto by choice was out of the question, so do what you like!

Why are you worried about it? There are no adverse affects of AFM as it's encorporated into many other GM vehicles.

You can turn off AFM with a tune. But if your planning on an LS3 M6, you don't have to worry about it.

But if you would rather have an automatic, then you'll want to read up on AFM/DOD. Most of us love our automatics. The L99 A6 hauls axx with just a few basic mods. So if you do want an automatic don't let the AFM/DOD scare you away.

first thing many l99 and truck owners do is have the afm/dod turned off,, most with no noticeable loss in fuel mileage,,

+1 I love my L99. It is very potent and has more than enough to hang tough. One of my first mods was the CAI Inc induction and at WOT It just sounds like an angry machine begging to chew up asphalt.

No problems and no tunes for me. I enjoy sipping a little less fuel on highway cruises. I also enjoy my warranty.

You can turn off the AFM by simply changing the parameters on the stock tune if you want. I've talked to three different service managers who say this will not void your power train warranty. They know people don't like it, and the only reason it's there is so the car won't be subject to the gas guzzler tax. It's easy to do with a hand-held tuner, and your mileage won't suffer unless you plan to only drive on a perfectly flat surface without accelerating. That's how they validate the EPA mileage rating, but that's not how people drive in the real world.
