Acquired a V6 Camaro.
Hey guys. I don't get on very much. I mostly do some lurking about 5th gen news. Something has gotten me very excited, though. I got a call from my sister and she is literally giving me her 2002 Camaro Convertible. It has a cracked block, though. Otherwise, the car has 55K on it and is in absolute mint condition. Question is, what should I realistically do with this car? Should I go get a donor Z28 and do a driveline swap or should I just sell it, etc. Appreciate the help. Any questions will be answered.

Cracked block? From a 3800? That's pretty uncommon. I'd fix it and sell it.

Yeah. I was surprised as well. I wish it wasn't cracked because then I could have had a free, running, low mile Camaro. Haha.

What's the story behind the cracked block? Engine blocks don't crack under normal circumstances..

I have no idea. She's not much of a car person, so maybe it's something else.

I really want to do an LS1 swap, but I heard they're a pain in the ass. :(

Get some more info about what is actually wrong and perhaps you'll be able to figure out the best way to approach it. Intake gasket is common for the 3.8 - cracked block, especially with this low miles is not.

Worst comes to worst all you have to do is just find a donor Z and go from there. Basically unbolt the K member with the engine still attached and just change everything over. Transmissions are the same if it's an Auto, and the harnesses are just plug and play along with the ECU/PCM.
Only hard part would be taking the car and getting the computers to run as well as resetting the odometer to read the car's chassis miles (can be done at the dealership, had it done with a replacement cluster in our '04 Silverado). Just takes time. |

I'd take it and do a swap if you're getting it for free.

I was going to leave my T56 in my T/A and go with the built 700R4 in an 89 GTA roller I found had I not decided to rebuild my T/A. |
