I know there is going to be a large percentage of Gen 5 V6s, does anyone have the numbers for Gen 1&2?

There were no V6's in gen 1 or Gen 2

If you want to know the ratio of inline-6 to V-8 for the first generation as a whole it was 80% V-8 to 20% Inline-6.

Based on a total of 699,138 total gens, 146,025 Inline-6 and 553,113 V-8's.

Give or take a car or two

that is right , the 6 cyl engines were all straight 6's in the first 2 gens. the 3rd gen was the first year for V6 production in a Camaro.

Actually, they did start to put some v6s into 1979 cars. There is this Camaro in WI that is the nicest Camaro around. It is an inline 6. Black motor with just the right amount of chrome throughout. painted 2 tone like the 80 / 81 RS. VERY NICE CAR! Built for looks, not speed. When we are at shows, are we not ALL going the same speed!!??

Yes, in 1980 they put v6 motors in the camaro, there were 2 v6's, the 231 and 229, both motors were 3.8l. I have heard of these two motors in cars in 79, but all the books show 1980 the first year

I have seen the L6 motor in '79s, but never a V6.

1973 was a very short year for camaro production. the production line sat dormant for months due to a union strike ( unions suck ), many half built camaros sat half built due to the strike.

if anyone could find an original 6 cyl 73 camaro with the numbers matching six, it would be one of 3000.

given the fact that a large majority of owners in the intervening years would have swapped in a V8 ( people searched for 6 cyl donor cars through he 70s, 80s and 90s), i would be willing to bet that there are less than two dozen original, unaltered 1973 straightsix factory cars still exist in original condition.
