Body In White Camaro bodies are ready to start shipping

GM Performance Parts announced the availability of a "Body in White" program at the Performance Racing Industry Show in Orlando.

That program would give hard core racers the ability to purchase bare 2010 Camaro bodies for all out race cars.

Well I am happy to announce that the bodies are starting to hit the GM Performance Parts Warehouse. Back orders will start to ship this week!

Those who have ordered bodies should be contacted by their GM Performance Parts dealer.

If you haven't ordered yours for next season now is the time to contact your dealer.

I know the number of BIW Camaros that have been ordered. I am excited to these things in the hands of some of the most talented chassis builders.

You will also notice in the picture some of the GM Performance Parts crate engines at the warehouse. Mountains of crate engines!!!!!

Robin

From GMperformanceparts:

The basic package lists for $7,000, which buys an assembled body structure (front fenders, hood, roof, doors, rear quarters and trunk lid). The structure also comes with the complete floorpans and chassis rails. Consumers must fill out an online application to be eligible to purchase one.

So I guess you have to buy the fascias on top of the BIW, then? Am I reading that right?

Pretty cool. Think of this. If you totalled your newCamaro. You could order a replacement body. Then, Rebuild. I've done this before only the bodies were from the wrecking yard.

This is incorrect - not just anyone can order the bodies and they are for offroad racing use only. You need to apply for purchase and only get to purchase if you are approved.

On another note - could this be a sign that they are starting to catch up on production of the ordered cars?

I realize that these bodies are only for racing. But it would be a good idea to buy like 3 or 4 and put them in a warehouse, then in 20-30 years when people are restoring theirs you could either sell them as a complete new body or part them out, and cut panels off them.
