Tapatalk + Camaro5 Search = Fail

I have been on Camaro5 through my iPhone app Tapatalk. I have lurked around here for a while and after finally getting a Camaro, started posting.

From Day 1, searching through the App for posts or topics has been a disaster. The search results are simply wrong, not related. For example, if I know there is a thread called
"Camaro Test" and if I search using the exact words, the thread will not be in the list. If it does, it won't be anywhere near the top and lots of scrolling is needed. If i actually need to find a topic, or post, that seems impossible. (I know you can select between posts and threads.)

So what I do is, search using google for something I need to find on the site "site:camaro5.com +Camaro +test" and read using the browser. Then read on the web. But If I want to participate or write to that thread, takes forever to find it.

Using Tapatalk version 1.14.3 currently.

It shows the exact search results from camaro5 as if you were on the desktop. Try it. Its a vbulletin thing. Search results usually suck.

Yes, I do realize its the forum script which is at fault, therefore I depend on google metacrawlers.

Hoping the designers would look into this as it's major item. The most bragged notorious reply on the forum is "use the search button". Well search is broken and definitely sucks.

With a little experience & playing around, you can usually find what you are looking for. It might take changing a few settings or keywords but what you want will usually come up.

That said, my single biggest gripe with V-bulletin is their search .

About 90% of my posts are from tapatalk and never had a problem, although I don't search that much but never had a problem when I did. Easier if you search in the right particular forum too.

99% of my use is on Tapatalk but we are talking about search.

For example, go search "threads" for this very thread using keywords: Camaro Fail. This thread does not come up, at least in the first 20 results. Didn't bother checking all 500.

Yet its the number 1 result when I look for 'search'
And the only result I get when I look for 'Camaro5' and 'fail'

All searches need improvement. The actual site, Google, yahoo. In the end I find what I need but it can be a pain

It needs improvement but its not quite as bad as you seem to make it out to be. The results didn't show this thread when you searched for terms that are pretty much unrelated to the content of this thread (Camaro fail). But when entering more relevant terms (Camaro5 search) this thread pops right up. I see that as the search doing its job of delivering relevant results, not a failure to find a specific thread.

And, because this can't be said enough ... most sites (including Camaro5) use v-bulletin's forum software. So no matter how frustrated end users become, ultimately its v-bulletins problem to solve. Complaining to them is going to be of more benefit, because we are pretty much powerless to do anything about it. Besides, most of the site staff were probably aware of the search functions limitations before we were even part of the site staff.

Google Search for C5 threads is WAY better, IMO.

But I hate seeing people complain on here about people not using the search, when the search function sucks so badly!

This.

Instead of using the Camaro5 search just type whatever you were searching for into Google and add "camaro5" at the end of it. I do this and have never once had a problem finding a thread.
