Traction control doesnt prevent fishtails?

This is my first v8 rwd car and it started raining here pretty hard. Took the 6 speed camaro SS at about 15mph in second and gave it just a tiny bit of gas to get on the freeway and the rear slid out like I was on ice (ca no ice).

I almost did a uturn on the freeway on ramp and I was able to save it. I'm just curious, if both rear wheels are spinning equally then traction control doesnt kick in?

How good are your tires? My tires are bad but it’s nothing for me to spin a donut in a parking lot with traction control on.

I thought this is where Stabili-Trak took over. Sort of senses vehicle yaw and applies the brakes to 'help' prevent more fishtail. But once momentum has started in that direction, it'll likely overpower the braking action of stabili-trak, the way I see it. Especially on a wet surface.

Traction control should kick on but it still allows the tires to spin slightly and it takes a moment to kick in. Under a certain speed stability control won't activate. My advice, take in in a big parking lot when it is raining and turn everything off and learn your car and how to control it.

Traction control doesn't care about hydroplaning, which sounds like is what happened to you.

Good tires are the best thing you can do for traction, being safe with the throttle is the next. The nannies can only do so much.

My tires arent new but not completely bald either. There wasnt much visible rain on the ground at this point so I dont think it was hydro. I was also barely accelerating because it was raining.

I had a 450whp subaru before this. That AWD really makes a difference, never had to worry about this kind of thing lol.

Have to be very careful in the rain with this bad boy it seems.

I have brand new tires on my car and at times when it’s wet out it wants to go sideways a little bit. Never had it happen at any higher speeds fortunately only at lower speeds speeding up.

I can spin the tires in my car at will, wet or dry. But I find its stability is actually quite amazing. As long as I do not disable the nannies, she is well behaved in the wet, as long as I am. Also, tires make a huge difference in wet driving.

The only way my car fishtails in the rain is if I am giving it too much throttle for the conditions. Just saying. You may need to adjust your driving and get a little more conservative until you have more experience with this car.

Traction control will let the car slip for a little bit before it catches depending on speed and throttle input.

The only time I've had real issues similar to that was soon after I got my car. The reason for the issue was that the inside of the tire was worn to almost bald while the outside of the tire still looked good. The reason was that the previous owner had lowering springs on the car and had put the stock springs back on when he sold it to me. However, he hadn't aligned the car and so the inside of the tires wore out bad because the alignment was off the chart worn out. My guess as you somewhat indicated, is that the tires aren't new and potentially there's a worn side to them possibly from a bad alignment and you're going to have this issue until you buy some new tires.

If you still have the P Zeros, they suck on wet surfaces.
