The Valentine and the 9500ix are good choices. Stay away from the cheap detectors, they are cheap for a reason. Go to radartest.com for information on a bunch of current and older detectors.

Yep, V1 is awesome!

If you cant swing a new one look for a well cared for used. I bought mine off craigslist for 175.

They don't work...

Save your hard earned money and don't buy a "radar" detector. Most of law enforcement has moved on technology wise and now use LIDAR instead of the old traditional radars. The LIDAR doesn't run constantly and by the time your detector sounds off it's too late. They already got you. You are more than likely to get false readings than anything else with all the gizmos and gadgets cars come equipped with these days.

Not to mention there is a new anti-detector radar gun in development that current radar detectors can't pick up. If you live in a big city or somewhere that has the budget to buy the new radar gun when they come out, come next year you're new detector will be completely useless.

True LiDAR is hard to beat but not all departments have/use it. In my area Ka radar is still the most common and it can be detected from a great distance so you get lots of warning. Some to my surprise still even use K band radar. It also helps to properly position the detector toward the horizon but i see them pointing to the sky all the time.

I've always owned the $60 Cobra model. Bought it in highschool because I thought I was cool and it worked so well that I never got rid of it works great for my town. It will go off way before I see a cop. Really surprised me tbh

Lol same here. I am running like a 10 year old Cobra that has probably saved me hundreds, if not thousands of dollars and points on my license.

I would love a new Escort Redline or other fancy new unit, but this one is still cutting it for now and I would prefer to put that money elsewhere.

Only issue I am having with it now is that I'm starting to get more false alarms on highway due to blind spot sensors and the like.

I have an old Valentine One (I think it's pushing 20 years old at this point) and it has worked great until recently as the blind spot sensors get very annoying. Hyundai and Kia seem to be particularly upsetting to my V1.

+1. Got it for 135 during the fire sale before they jumped up in price. Excellent detection beyond my previous 9500ix and does well with blind spot monitoring and adaptive cruise control systems. Saved me plenty of times.

around my area they have motorcycle cops using LIDAR, impossible to protect yourself. they pull the bikes out of sight, and when they see you they just pull the trigger and your done.

just drive like you have some sense and you'll be fine. people don't seem to get that cops seldom just pull you over for going over the limit, every car on the road does. I never, and I do mean never, drive the speed limit. I also haven't had a ticket in 17 years.

I got a detector/jammer several years ago. Works great except when the cop is on the other side of the hill. By the way, don't try to fight the ticket with the excuse that the cop couldn't have got you on. radar because your detector didn't go off. Some judges just have no sense of humor
