Dubai, United Arab Emirates - The hottest new sports car on the scene, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro is set to steal the spotlight on its regional premiere at the upcoming 2008 Abu Dhabi International Motor Show in mid December.

From concept to reality, the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro delivers the best of both worlds - great heritage and a thoroughly modern, advanced package of performance, comfort and technology. Camaro is set to hit Middle East showrooms by the second quarter of 2009.

"The 2010 Camaro will deliver on all the promises set forth by the widely popular 2006 Camaro concept," said Karen Toor, Chevrolet Cars Marketing Manager in the Middle East. "It is a heritage-inspired sports car for the 21st century, combining great looks and performance; advanced technology and surprising efficiency."

With a design that is very faithful to the original concept, the 2010 Camaro is a 21st century sports car that acknowledges its heritage. A long front dash-to-axle and short rear deck give the Camaro classic proportions, while a sleek windshield profile, wheels pushed to the corners and muscular fender forms are modern elements that reinforce its advanced engineering - and give the car a decidedly aggressive stance.

An advanced, efficient 3.6L V-6 engine is standard on LS and LT models. It is rated at an estimated 304 (net) hp @ 6400 rpm and 370 (net) Nm @ 5200 rpm of torque. A six-speed manual transmission is standard with the 3.6L engine. The high-performance Camaro SS is equipped with a powerful 6.2L V-8, with a choice of a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Manual transmission-equipped models are powered by a higher output 6.2L V8 pumping out an estimated at 422 (net) hp @ 5000 rpm and 553 (net) Nm @ 4500 rpm of torque.

Designed to protect occupants before, during and after a crash, the Camaro offers a comprehensive system of safety features - starting with a robust body structure and integral safety cage around the passenger compartment. High-strength steel and ultra high-strength steel are used in key areas throughout the structure.

Indeed, the 2010 Camaro exemplifies GM's global development process. The design concept originated in the United States; engineering was directed by GM's global rear-wheel-drive team in Australia; validation was conducted on roads around the world and assembly will take place at GM's award-winning Oshawa facility in Canada.

Has anyone heard (or wondered for that matter) how a second quarter release overseas will affect domestic production numbers or availability. US first, right?

We won't be missing them here. We're expected to have lots of them at home. Overseas sales are just free profit for GM so long as they keep the price high and the availability low. Hopefully, our neighbors to the north and our friends down under get their Camaros in large quantities, but some places having just a few make it very profitable for GM to sell them. The US will have the overwhelming majority of Camaros.

None, 20% of Corvette production is for Non US sales and there has never been a "shortage" of vettes.
