Although pretty rough with the language, he's got a point. That was the first thing I said to the wife, why don't they just put it in neutral when it starts to accelerate.

Other than the swearing, the guy's a retard. At least in the very first case of this error, the first cause of the uncontrolled acceleration with that Prius was from the computer going BSOD on him. I remember many people saying that the computers would be the weakest link with many of these new all electrically controlled systems. It was pretty much like when your computer locks up and the sound is looping over and over till you reset it except for at least the first guy it was the gas. Unfortunately, the shifter is entirely electronic as well. No shifting when the computer is down. The push start button is also probably linked to the computer so you aren't going to kill the system by holding down the button while the computer is locked up. Maybe on the recall and newer subsequent models they linked at least the push start buttons directly to the power supply and not just through the computer.

Quite a few of the car companies moving to an all electrical system with a centrally controlling computer have done so because it's been working for many of the newer aircraft for years. What they didn't entirely research thoroughly was that there are redundant backups to the computer as well as processes to reset the computer in flight in case it goes bad or just pull the freaking handle and getting the hell out. Being around and in fly-by-wire aircraft for years has shown that while it's not THAT common, the flight control computer can and has locked up IRL before and usually involves the pilot just pulling his D-ring and getting the hell out.

After taking programing classes, I'm not a huge fan allowing a single computer system to handle all inputs/outputs and not pull a Murphy's Law on me. The amount of program errors that are initially programed in and errors to the code that develop over time, just scares the hell out of me when it is solely relied upon to keep me alive.

Sorry if a repost but I searched vid title and saw nothing in result.

You were a little too specific. It was the only thread when I searched for "Prius NSFW". Additionally, there are only a total of 17 threads in general automotive with Prius in the title.
