So I went to the race track against an S3...

This past Friday I went to Gateway Motorsports with a friend from work who has a 2015 Audi S3 with a chip mod as the only change. The Audi all wheel drive launched amazing.. and even though being a 4-cyl 2 liter it got 12.5 seconds on the 1/4 mile. I got 13.2, which I know isn't great but it's the first time for me at the track. I had to do a few runs before I learned how to launch right, I was with all the nanny controls off, manual car, all stock.

I was hoping to at least be in the same league as that S3..

Thoughts?
Oh yeah, car number 11 (right) is me (the Audi wasn't matched up with me on that particular run)

Yeah, agreed. I didn't have the easiest time launching the car, I was getting a lot of tire spin and/or wheel hop. I was getting scared that I may cause damage so launches after that I went easier with more clutch work. I guess more practice.. :-)

AWD provides a great advantage on the 1/4 mile. Get yourself some drag radials and you will tie it up. I was able to shave 1.5 seconds off my time with drag radials only.

AWD is a bugger to drag against but a good set of drag radials will narrow that advantage greatly. You did good for your first time out working on that 60ft. is your best point of progress like others mentioned.

S3 and S4 are nasty cars to go up against, glad you did well first time at the track.

His slip said 12.37 at 110MPH. So clearly that means to me that his launch was superior but I was catching up to him since we both had similar top speeds at the end.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I don't know how often I'll go to the dragstrip but I'm thinking of maybe getting something to help me deal with the wheel hop and maybe improve handling on a day-to-day driving (it's my daily driver).
If someone has recommendations for kits that fit on a 2013 SS then I will appreciate it.

Also, I did order a Procharger I1 3 weeks ago (should be coming in any day now) that should help compensate. With a little suspension work, learning to improve my 60ft and the extra power I hope to get 11's (?).. :-)

The drag radials are good advice. But come on. 1.5 seconds??? What did you do? Go from a 2.7 sixty to a 1.7?????

Well maybe he was getting some more seat time. I shaved almost a full second.....gained almost 6mph.....and knocked my 60ft down from 2.4 down to 2.0 just from a little practice.

Then give more seat time the credit and not the tires. There is no way on earth a set of drag radials is cutting that mount of time off a run unless your comparing a blown run to a best run. With all things being equal. You'll cut 2-3 tenths off your sixty using DRs. That doesn't equal 1.5 seconds off your E/T.
