I think it's insane that people are selling used 3.91 rear ends for $1,000 when at least where I live you can have a shop provide all the parts and labor and have all new stuff for $100-200 more.

I paid 940 for a used 3.91. A new one when I was looking was 1500 or so. Most of the shops around me wanted to charge at least 900 for labor to swap the gears, plus the 450 for the gear set. So yes, buying a used diff for nearly 1000 is worth it considering you can sell your old one and make something back.

Can you still buy the 1le diff from factory? I was thinking about doing this, and just did some quick looking. Shows as "unavailable" on just about every parts website. I know the gear set can be bought, but if you can buy the whole chunk, its a relatively straightforward diy swap, as opposed to having a shop install gears in an existing diff

Interested in 1 LE as well.

Aside from that. What else is required for the upgrade any ancillaries? Just the diff/final gear?

Isn’t the diff in the SS the same as the 1le if you just switch out the gears it’s exactly like the 1le, right? I read that somewhere. Not sure if it’s true, but I love the 3.91s in my car. Worth it!

Here is the 3.91 diff part # 22806794. Based on my google search it shows to be discontinued.
