I own a SS, but rented the V6 Challanger and V6 Camaro
Most of you guys know me. My car has been in the shop for almost 3 months, as I have done everything possible to my car (see my sig for details)
Before I took my car in for its recent modifications it put down 524 RWHP. My car is close to being finished and I have been renting the cheapest 4 banger available--usually a hyundai elantra or equivalent. I figured I have spent so much time in a tiny compact that I wanted to get used to the size of my Camaro. I made a reservation to rent a V6 Camaro. When I went in to pick it up they only had v6 Challengers available. I took it with the intention of returning it in a couple of days to get the Camaro. Never have I ever driven such a pile of junk in my life. The hyundai elantra was more fun to drive than this pathetic excuse for a car (V6 Challenger) The car is SO heavy and the v6 with the so called 250HP (I'm sure it was something like 180 RWHP w/ a curb weight of 3760 lbs.) it barely moved. What's funny is the solid real axle on this car. If I so much as tapped on the accelerator when turning, the car would go sideways. LOL I do have to admit I had a lot of fun power sliding the car over the weekend when it was raining. Please witness my attempt of the most pathetic burnout for a "muscle car" EVER. I'll be quite honest with you, I've never had respect for any type of V6, even the Camaro v6... however, after picking up the V6 Camaro this morning, I've had a permanent grin on my face. The stock V6 is amazingly fast and it has exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds. Although I am used to the SS interior, the V6 comparable and the over feel of the car is very similar. The sound of the stock v6 exhaust is very appealing. Anyways, just wanted to share my recent experience with my C5 family. Here's a pic of the V6 I'm renting right now. Notice the traction control off and Sport mode :p I did a burn out off the rental lot. limited slip 1 wheel burn out :p Last edited by aet08; 03-21-2011 at 07:11 PM. |

I didn't know the Challengers still use the solid axle.

Hilarious. That's pretty much what I thought after driving both the V8 and V6 Chargers. They feel like dumbed down 300's to me. As a V6 owner i think you nailed it. To me the exhaust is a hoot. It's definitely not what you'd expect coming out of a Camaro but it kinda sounds cool in it's own weird way. My bro has the SS and yes it's faster but the for me the V6 is a nicer drive in the twisties. The V6 ain't no joke.

You have to drive the SRT8, thats an amazing vehicle. The V6 is designed for the style and "good gas mileage."

Nice review. I wish I could have afforded the 2ss/RS maybe when my kids are older but I am happy with my v6 for now since i tote the kids around more than the hubby. The cheaper challengers look funny to me am I the only one that thinks so? I looked at several V6s but the looks and feel of the Camaro were the best to me.

Nice to see a V8 guy giving to the V6. Whether it's an LS or SS, we all have great taste when it comes to cars!
I do like the looks of the Challengers, but I think I would've had to get at least an R/T.

My dealer loaned me a 2011 v6 camaro last week, couldn't wait to get my 2ss back. I'm not sure how you guys drive those things, lol. Not to mention I think it used more gas than my v8

lol, thanks OP for the respect towards V6. I've been getting similar reactions from SS owners here as well. Good to hear you had some fun with those cars too
