Mechanical hardtop

GM has had 3 hardtop convertibles. the SSR, the Saab, the Pontiac G6.
They have the technology and no car at this time to use it.
Why not the 2012 Camaro?!?

The system doesn't need a 200lb motor, and canvas is a pain in the ass.

Best
Ricky

I love this convertible! I highly doubt the shark fin will be behind the 3rd brakelight because it partially obscures the 3rd brakelight.

It doesn't take future technology to make a hard top convertible, it just takes lots of money, lots of weight, lots of room and lots of restyling of the car to fit it in there, none of which you'd really want. Don't get me wrong they are really nice, but not worth it except in a really expensive car where the extra $10,000 isn't that big of deal. The SSR was super expensive, the G6 was WAY more expensive than the normal car, which killed its sales, and there was never a Saab.

And it's also WAY too late for it to be even considered for the Camaro; the car's been done for years and we still haven't gotten it out on the road due to our bankruptcy and the bankruptcy disappearance of the supplier that engineered the original top for it... luckily the new one is going to be much nicer, but no chance of a hard top! You have NO idea what you're asking. That would have to be done from the very beginning, not added on at the last minute.

No. I know they won't. Please stop wondering. I work there. Trust me. We thought of it many years ago. It's not happening. Seriously. Read my post above yours.

It's been pointed out that it's super distorted by the camera lens and the movement. Could that be it? Or that the graceful swoopy upper part of the car has been cut off leaving only the huge heavy blocky stubby lower part of the car?

No... it's that the convertible cuts off some of the most beautiful lines on the car. It's a chop top... without the top?

I cant stand people who drive with the windows up on a convertible!! Doesn't make any sense to me at all. Please tell me why these people do this? If its because the wind then don't have a convertible!! If I see someone with the windows up with the convertible down I will honk at them and tell them to roll the windows down!!

Im not much for convertibles but it looks pretty sweet to me

The 3rd brake light should be more like the 3rd gen, in the rear spoiler.
i thought the same thing when i saw where they put the reverse lights on the production model camaro, they look like an afterthought. they are randomly placed in the middle of either side of the rear bumper where as every other light/reflector actually flows with the body lines or uses a body line as one side of it

back on topic, i don't think the convertible looks bad. although the 3rd brake light and antenna do take away from the aesthetic appeal of the rear end, no one ever said they were permanent
