My SS Build July 2019

Hello Camaro5 community!

Long time no post here...

As a 10th season is well under way with my SS I have decided it is time to do some nice upgrades!!

July 17th my car is scheduled for its work...

On the agenda:

Brian Tooley Stage III camshaft with trunnion bearing upgrade

and to transmit the power to the rear wheels I have decided to do a complete ZL-1 drivetrain swap (driveshaft, differential and axles)

Super pumped!!

Will post updates soon!!

Are you doing oil pump, timing chain, springs, dampner, push rods, ? I don’t think the zl1 drive train is necessary.

I am really trusting the shop I am bringing it to in terms of the cam install. I know the springs pushrods are being changed I am not sure if he is changing oil pump or timing chain, I would be surprised to be honest. I do have faith with him he has installed over 1500 cams in camaros vettes and caddys.

As for the ZL-1 drivetrain, totally agree I think it is overkill however he is giving me a fantastic deal on it so I am not passing it up.

Thanks for the reply!

Nice! I did similar cam, springs, pushrods, trunnion bushings, c5r chain, ls2 style dampner. Left the stock pump as only 8000 km at the time. Very pricey here in Canada

Yea the bill adds up quick!!

UPDATE:

Just dropped the car off at Performance Redline in Valleyfield QC, Bob at the shop was nice enough to let me witness the baseline dyno.

394whp baseline I am pretty happy let's see the gains in a couple of days!

More to come

Brand new car

Wow I must say the car feels completely different and new

Dyno 444.1 whp and 442.9lb-ft

But arguably it is the ZL-1 differential that makes all that power so usable!

I have not driven the car much since I picked it up this morning but WOW is all I can say right now. I feel like I would re-buy my car all over again!

Side note another SS was at the shop at the same time as mine getting his transmission changed because it was blown... he took the opportunity to also upgrade the driveline to a ZL1 and heard my car with the cam so he decided to leave the car longer for a Cam install too

Here are some pics, I will post a sound clip too idle is very tame at my request (I live in a condo building with the car in the underground parking don't want my neighbors hating me more than I have to lol)

Nice!

Did you get the 3.73 screw in the ZL1 diff? That stepped you up another notch.

Yes exactly! My original plan was to put a 3.91 gear in my stock diff along with the cam install but the shop sold me on the whole driveline of the ZL1. I am so happy I did it too... the 3.73’s are shorter but still have some room to play in 1st and 2nd. Definitely woke the car up!!
