Service Theft Detection System
So I went to the store and when I came out my car wouldn't start. It has a notice that says, "Service Threat Detection System."
I tried opening my car door with my only key and starting, that didn't work. I tried leaving the car on the 'on' position without cranking for 20 minutes and that did nothing. The error stayed on screen. I only have 1 original key fob and have not been to gm to have the warranty done yet. 2012 Camaro LS |

google youtube on how to replace it so you don't take it apart too far like the first time I did it, because re winding the spring is a small hassle. |

There is a sensor in the steering column that has to be changed.

That's because it has nothing to do with the battery, that was BAD information.
The transponder is inductively powered at the ignition cylinder. IF that does not work, it does not power the chip, and the module won't read the chip. The chip can also be bad, if you have another key, try that. If both keys fail, then you need to look into car side issues. |

First thing to do is check for BCM code(s)
Retrieving a code can save a lot of time and money. Put you in the right direction. Verify that the key fob is fully extended and locked in place, in line with ignition key shank. |

How do I check BCM codes? Is there a scanner I can buy or use that doesn't require the engine to be started?

I believe if there was tampering or something that is similar like maybe a bad chip or someone trying a no transponder key or one that has not been programmed or has it's program deleted it might lock it up with that warning but I'm too lazy to look that up for you OP. |

About the most cost effective option would probably be a thinkdiag, which iirc uses a subscription model, but comes with 1 manufacturer for 1 year. With sub, it can access everything, but without sub, it's just a regular ODB2 scanner.
If you have a laptop and the patience to fool around with getting it to work, you could pick up a vxdiag. That will run Tech2win (the pc software version of a full blown tech2 scanner). That can talk to every module in GM stuff from about 1996 to 2016, and even is supposed to be able to to flash program replacement modules through ACDelco TDS. I bought a Cadillac SRX with a ton of gremlins for a winter beater; and ended up setting up a vxdiag with an old windows 7 tablet. I'm not gonna lie, it was a pain to get working. But it's handy to have a budget tool that could troubleshoot all the individual modules in that thing and help me chase down the gremlins.

If I'm not mistaken usually that would be tripped by someone tryin' to steal your Camaro while you were in the store BTW. You'll have a hard time finding the battery under the hood as shown. Also I can't guarantee it won't trip the stolen radio thing on GMs where you need a code to get that working again, or re-set the auto window roll downs (for damn sure don't close the doors during this). A hack like this might cause more pain than it's worth is what I'm sayin'. |

This happened to me with a flip key. The Transponder in the key went bad or fell out or something. The car worked with my spare key. Since you don’t have a spare key I think you need a locksmith.

I used a BlueDriverr OBDII scanner and received the following code.
B3055 No Transponder Modulation/No Transponder. I only have 1 key fob - How would I fix this issue... |
