The Camaro V8s I've heard are pretty quiet at idle, but sound really good when accelerating.

If there's one thing I'd change about these Camaros at the factory (if I were GM), it's the exhaust. My stock V6 didn't sound bad per se, but it was just too quiet. I haven't heard the SS exhaust in person, but people have said it's also a bit mild. GM really should've made these cars sound a lot meaner, IMO. Nothing a catback can't fix though
The SS LS3 is louder than the 1LT I test drove. the muffler is basically one helmholtz resonance chamber and not much else... It is pretty quiet on idle and up to 3k RPM, but past that, it really wakes up. I'll probably upgrade one day, but the CAI mod has added a little WOT sound and I am pretty happy for now.

I have the 2SS/RS 6 speed manual. Last time in Florida I rented the V6 Automatic. I have to say I was pleasently surprised at the acceleration of the V6. Once I figured out how to use the tap shifter (putting the "stick" in "M") it was really a blast.

While I missed my clutch (I kept moving my left foot like it was there) power braking more then made up for it.

They made it so a friend of mine would buy one so I could see it and rethink my then-goal of buying a Honda Civic Si, of course!

It came out when the competition was a 210hp Mustang. Not that the 40hp advantage was likely to do it much good given the car's weight problem, even before the Camaro came out, but on paper it looked good, and cruising down the road at speed it sure did too.

The new one with the Pentastar sounds like it's a much different animal as well.

and this is why I bought the Camaro, They didn't just tack on a few extra horses, they blew the 2010 Mustang out the water by 100HP in both models. I knew that Chevy was really trying with this car when I saw that they weren't just trying to meet the status-quo. Now, the current Mustang has caught up, but I stuck with the Chevy for 2011 because of the looks! They can't be beat in the price range in my opinion.

Very nice review. I wish all V8 owners rent a V6 camaro like OP so they can give it a rest about bad mouthing the V6.

I am happy with my V6 as well, and my kids don't mind gettiing in and out either of the backseat either. I was looking at both the Camaro and Challenger, I already owned an '07 Charger and I figured the Challenger was just another Charger only different body style....so glad I got the Camaro. I think with buying a 2SS a person is mainly buying bragging rights. I don't plan on doing any racing so the V6 makes the most sense for me power/performance/economy/insurance/ and cost factors.

Thanks for the honest props for our beloved V6 Camaros. BTW Mine now sounds really good. Amazing what a Borla exhaust & CAI inc. intake can do for improved sound & a little extra get up & go too!

I look at it this way: I currently own a 1993 Z28 V-8; Gas prices are outrageous and I have to use premium for it to run as smoothly as possible; recently rented a 2011 V6 and totally loved it. Reinforced my goal to get a 2012 (which I have ordered). When I saw that the 2012 has 323 hp, I did the math and figured...that's enough HP for me. If my current Z has 275 and I've been happy with that all these years, then the 323 hp will be amazing. For all of you Camaro owners out there, whatever style, trim, price you paid, as long a you're happy driving around in a nice Camaro that meets your needs, that's all that matters. LIFE IS TOO SHORT, ENJOY THE RIDE - AND, BEST ENJOYED IN A CAMARO!
