Should the Camaro/vette go the way of the viper?

If the worst should happen to GM would you like to see the GM performance cars go the way of the viper?

i think GM (if it goes under) could sell the camaro and vette names so that a separate private company could keep the heritage going.

It won't happen, so I refuse to poll.

Sounds like National Enquirer type predictions.

Gah!

this is so hard to be objective on a question like this....

I'd say "maybe" on the Vette... Big maybe. But I think the Camaro, for sure, should stay under Chevy/GM... I truly feel the same about the vette. But, if they had to sell one, I'd say they should sell the Vette off....

But that is an emotional answer with little fact supporting it...

I'd rather see Ford get a hold of the Corvette than Chrysler or the Japs. If Ford treated the Corvette like the GT40, I think it would be okay. Ford doesn't really have a sports car either, so I can see them picking up the Corvette in the very, very, very remote possibility that it came down to that.

The Camaro would probably go the way of the dinosaurs though. Most companies don't think that muscle/sports is a good way to spend R&D funding right now, and those that do have already produced muscle/sports cars; acquiring the Camaro would just create in-brand competition.

In Germany they're already selling the Vette under their own "Corvette" brand name.

i thought i read somewhere that dodge was trying/thinking of selling the viper name/parts to a private company????? i could be wrong

also im not saying GM is going to die, it is a completely "what if" situation. i would rather the camaro and corvette stay under GM. im just asking IF gm would cease to operate would you like to see them built by a different company or let them die an honorable/depressing death

It's called a hypothetical. I like the Corvette where it is.

I refuse to believe that GM is going anywhere. Corvette will live on!

last I checked they have been trying to sell the name to another company. I figured it wouldn't be a dodge much longer...

I put those efforts up there along with the story last year about them killing off the car.

Forget just Camaro and Corvette. Even if GM goes under, the valuable brands (at least Chevy and Caddy) will be picked up.
