Uh oh.... Lamborghini Gallardo Drag Races Into a Pond

Watch a 2,000HP Lamborghini Gallardo Drag Race Into a Pond

The Lamborghini Gallardo is by no means a slow car, but that hasn’t stopped tuners from bolting on huge turbochargers and giving it more get-up-and-go. This twin-turbo Gallardo is one such car, and at this weekend’s WannaGOFAST runway shootout in Ocala, Florida – it did just that.

Except it didn’t stay on the track. After damaging its rear diffuser earlier in the day, the driver of the 2,000 horsepower Lamborghini gave the car one last run at the half mile, lost control of the car, and careened headlong into a nearby retention pond. Luckily, the driver was unhurt and the car appears not to have suffered any visible damage.

Damage on a car like this means a massive repair bill, especially considering this Lamborghini, known as the ‘Heffner Gallardo’, started out life as one of the limited edition Gallardo LP570-4 Super Trofeo Stradales. In essence, it’s a road-going version of Lamborghini’s Blancpain Super Trofeo racecar.

That meant 570hp, zero to 60mph in less than 3.4 seconds, and a top speed of 199mph. Now it dials in over three times that horsepower and notches top speeds in the 220 mile per hour range. You wouldn’t say it’s exactly a sea-lover, though.

At about 7 sec in, it seems like it starts loosing traction, then over corrects.. at that moment I would have eased off the throttle.. but thats just me.. If you can afford a Lambo, then you can afford to fix it if you damage it..

Being as I'm not an expert I wont say that I know for a fact, but I am pretty sure those diffusers make a big deal when it comes to stability. That may have been one of the reasons it got so sideways so fast, even while loosing traction.
