So, we made a couple of little pulls today... This was the last one for today and we were spinning the tires like crazy... We will maybe put some big dudes on the straps tomorrow if we determine we need to make a higher pull...

The trims and everything else look fantastic... 20 lbs, 1800 ish RWHP...

While it was a fun weekend, pushing the record and going fast didn't happen. On my first pass, we had two plugs fail and partially come apart. There is some unknown as of yet damage in cylinders 5 and 7... A cursory bore scope didn't reveal anything on the Pistons or the cylinders, but it wasn't conclusive. If the damage is limited to the head, we will have them repaired by Lozano Brothers, and if there is any indication of possible damage to the Pistons or cylinder walls, the motor will go back to ERL in its entirety for repair. There is zero compression in those two cylinders right now. I became a spectator early, and helped others on their efforts...

At the same time, Michael Kiesling, with Chase Dooley driving the Snappy Racing Camaro re-claimed the 5th Gen Standing Mile record with a 226.3 mph pass. Congratulations and awesome job guys...

Wow, that is some tough luck. Hate hearing that happened after all that effort. Just goes to show how tough it is to get everything in sync. Interested to find out what happened...

Records are meant to be broken, just would have liked to see where yours would have been...

Unusual for plugs to fail ? What plugs are you using ?

If it is zero compression, that usually indicates a valve related issue. Hopefully the bottom end is ok though !

From my understanding, two plugs fouled out shortly after leaving the line. First gear pulled well after reaching the power band, as did second and third with the car going an easy 171 at the half. So the two plugs as they fouled were still creating spark but it was late in the cycle... The O2's were adding fuel, and the unburnt fuel was hitting the exhaust and firing late, probably washing the valve or valve seats or both and burning the ends off the plugs. It wouldn't pull very hard or build RPM in 4th and I saw a heavy stream of exhaust smoke so I dumped the chute at the 3/4 mile... This is entirely on me as I should have recognized the fouled plugs and down power, but this was my first time driving the car in about six months the track is rough and I still have a lot to learn...

So we got as far as pulling the intake manifold...which is a chore in itself. We can see bits of the spark plugs imbedded in the seats of the exhaust valves on number 5 and 7... We'll be pulling the head in the next few days and checking the bores and Pistons. Hopefully nothing there is damaged and we will have the heads fixed..
