ZL1 performance predictions

For the purpose of argument , lets assume it gets the same 640hp LT-4 variant as the CTS-V. It will also be Mag-Ride/NPP only like the last gen and full on 2SS only.

The new Z06 at 3530 lbs (MANUAL) 3558 (AUTO) lbs will run:

0-60: 3.1 (AUTO)
0-60: 3.3 (MANUAL)
1/4 mi: 11.1 (AUTO)
1/4 mi: 11.5 (MANUAL)

The new CTS-V at 4140 lbs will run:

0-60: 3.6 (AUTO)
1/4 mi: 11.8 (AUTO)

The C7 Z-51 manual weighs 3444 so about 90 lbs less than the Z06. Lets add the 90 lbs to the fully optioned 2SS weight of the C&D SS tested at 3760 lbs for a total of 3850 lbs for the ZLI. This would put it neatly between the CTS-V and Z06 in terms of weight.

So ZLI predictions at 3850 lbs (AUTO) and 3825 lbs (MANUAL) are:

0-60: 3.3 (AUTO)
0-60: 3.5 (MANUAL)
1/4 mi: 11.3 (AUTO)
1/4 mi: 11.6 (MANUAL)

Sound reasonable? Because a ZLI with specs like that will be world class!

Your logic sounds good to me.

I bet you'll be spot on if they make this new ZL1 6th Gen model.

This also begs the question of whether or not adding an aftermarket roots blower like an E-Force might be a good option. IMO it may be a much cheaper and close to as good way to go. The only real difference between a roots modded SS and a ZL1 may be some styling queues and a warranty.

I think you're very close!

However I suspect that the weight is going to be closer to 3,900lbs for a number of reasons. The ZXX is almost certainly going to have 6 piston brakes out front and larger rotor 4 piston pieces out back, extra bracing, heavier half-shafts and maybe a larger, stronger diff and maybe a stronger driveshaft.

So not a huge increase, but I don't think it'll only be 90lbs heavier. Even at 3,900lbs it'll still be 200+ pounds lighter than the current ZL1.

I still say it will be a 396 S/C with 800HP

What ever it will be it has to up the Hellcat 700HP.

I disagree, it only has to outrun the Hellcat. With a 300-400 lb weight advantage, it won't need to match the Hellcat's 707 HP.

There's a vocal crowd that takes no pleasure in a Camaro that outperforms the Hellcat, and only care that the HP is greater than 707. I have yet to understand this concept, but for many HP is all that matters.

Shop in Texas just got a 2016 SS with out magnetic ride and it was 3645 they said it had 7/8 tank of fuel. 3900 would be a really good guess for the next Z. That will kill a hellcat in every thing. Hot rod magazine had to SS at auto club drag way. The auto was at 12.2 in the quarter mile.

Most people don't even understand weigh concept ect.. They just hear 707hp and are amazed. So If the ZL1 has 640hp your might people might still get a hellcat instead.

The only reason the Hellcat has so much hype is because of the hp number. It took my Dad a full year to get his hellcat at msrp. All these idiots paid 10-20k mark ups and bought into the hype, some people even bagged there car thinking it would somehow go up in value.

By the end of 2016 Dodge predicts there going to build over 9000 hellcats!! Thats more than all the ZL1s produced over the last 5 years

I bet GM dreams of selling 9000 Z's. Guess what would help? A 707 Hp piece of marketing genius. I'm confident a 650 Z will run down a hellcat and kill it on a track but this car Isint even out yet and the hellcat is on its way out. What does that mean for the Z when next gen Dodge is out. And it's not just a HP number. There are tire only hellcats running 10.6, I don't care what you do with your car, your going to get a rush when your on the pedal of a cat. I still plan on a new Lt4 Z but I really respect dodge for building the hellcat.

If the next ZL1 or Z28 whatever they call it gets the LT4 with at least 640hp and weighs around 3900lbs it will be a very close drag race with the hellcat. It definitely will eat it's lunch on the racetrack. Hopefully early next year we will know.

When you say 9000 "hellcats" are you talking both charger and challenger models?
