I had my car in to the dealer for a warranty issue in June of 2018 and they told me my rear brakes were worn out and should they just go ahead and replace them now?

I told the dealer service guy I’d take a look at it and hold off for now. He seemed surprised.

Had my tires rotated recently and had my local and trusted independent guy look at the brakes and he said - nope, still look ok. Two years and 20,000+ miles later.

Agree with other posts that if you are pushing brakes hard on the track for example, it’s a different conversation.

Pads are cheap and easy to replace, just do it.
