how do i tune my ls3 camaro?
I am putting a halltech cold air intake and 1 7/8 inch kooks long tube headers, what is the best way of tuning the car? Do i have to put it on a dyno or can a tuner send me a custom tune and i would install it! For example vector motorsports has the vms powercable and all I have to do is plug it to my car and send them the data collected by this powercable. Then they will ask me what type of tune I want and send me the new tune, which I then install in my car. Is this good or should I get it dyno tuned? What is the difference between both ways of tuning?
Thanks |

Always better to put on a dyno and get a custom tune.

However, the mail-order tune will get you started and driving. But I wouldn't race it until you get a custom tune on the dyno. The difference is that a custom tune will be able to more quickly make changes, see what works, change again, adjust, tweek, and customize. A mail-order tune will be in the ballpark and get you rolling, but won't be optimal for your car or conditions. Padre |

Don't know where you are up there but search out Arun on the corvette forum. He's a very good tuner in Canada. Might be close to you.

If you dont have a local GOOD LS engine tuner call ted at jannetty racing and have him send you a tune! The tunes he does are REALLY good and hes a good guy to deal with.

Ok! say I would tune it myself would it be as accurate and custom as a dyno tune, and what would I need to purchase in order to be able to tune it myself? Thanks

Yeah I heard of him! He offers the mail ordered tune just like vector motorsports, before I make a purchase or decision I will be sure to give him a call as well! Thank you for the recomendation.

Another question! like Padre said , a mail tune will be in the ballpark but it won’t be custom to my car. It makes sense and I am sure it is true but it is not like I am doing major mods to my engine which would require serious recalibrations, it is just a air intake and some headers which vector motorsports told me that they already tested! So I was guessing that the variation between a custom dyno tune and a mail ordered tune (in this case) would be so minor that they are virtually identical! Please correct me if I am wrong.
Thanks in advance |
