What did they remove in place of the X pipe and do you remember the X pipe part number?

Some members tell me the factory resonator was straight piped while mine was H piped even though it was the same year and also a SS. Maybe because I have a special edition? . That was until I cut it out and installed the Manaflow X pipe. Love it!

Further research says an H pipe will scavenge better in the lower RPM range, while a X pipe needs higher velocity to scavenge. So just getting some quick starts off at a stop light you may consider an H pipe, but for full on top end power go X pipe. Also some just like the sound of one over the other.

When you guys talk about resonators, are they the short swelled area of pipe just ahead of the factory mufflers? If so, is it possible my previous early build 2010 SS didn't have these resonators from the factory?

The reason I ask is on that car I put JBA catless mid pipes on it with a SCTx3 tune to turn off the rear O2 sensors and the car sounded wicked, even with completely stock mufflers. I just did the exact same thing on a 2013 SS, the only difference being I used an SCTx4 tuner instead. Both tuners out of the box with no custom loaded tune. The 2013 is much quieter than my 2010 was, and also has way less crackle and decel pop. Still has some, but way less than my 2010 did.

I noticed the 13 has resonators ahead of the mufflers and can't honestly say I recall seeing them on my 2010. It's the only thing I can think of that would make the 13 quieter than the 10. Both cars were bone stock M6's.

Can't miss it, it's the size of a small child.

This is where it went.

Is that only on auto cars? Didn't see that on mine, just 2 small swells in the pipe ahead of the mufflers that resemble short cherry bomb mufflers.

Yes the resonator that looks like the picture posted above is only on the L99 autos. LS3's do not have the same resonator.

I have just installed a Magnaflow catback on my car and it came with a resonated x-pipe muffler to replace the factory resonator. I have tsp headers and hi flow cats also. THe mf part number was 15089. It’s not loud at all. When I purchased the car it luckily came with a Magnaflow muffler delete so I just took the muffler delete pipes and tips and replaced the rear mufflers. Making it a 15090 basically. It sounds perfect to me now. If I ever get tired me of it I can easily go back If you purchased a catback it should have come with resonator replacement. Maybe op only has a axle back.

So I'm still trying to determine if manual SS exhaust systems are different between 2010 and 2013. Almost has to be something added to the 13 to make it quieter.
