Some very strange questions...

This may sound kind of ridiculous, but I'm just curious...

When a new car is shipped, is it already topped off with all required fluids/etc or is this done at the dealer? The reason I ask is because I have a specific windshield washer fluid that I like to use and I absolutely love it. It is Rain-X De-Icer w/ Bug Remover (or something like that). But it's incredible and after a while, you barely ever have to use your wipers... the water just beads up and rolls off. I never really noticed this when I got my last car and it did not happen when it was raining... I felt like I could barely see, haha... I promptly held the button down and drained the entire thing, and put some new stuff in... it's been beautiful ever since!!

This also reminds me of another question... in my last car (2002 Dodge Stratus Coupe), a warning light would come on when I was low/out of windshield washer fluid. I loved that! In my new car (2008 Fusion), that is the only thing that seems to be missing... one cay I was using the fluid, and all the sudden it just died... GONE. And NO WARNING LIGHT... I was pissed!! I've looked through all of the Camaro manuals that have been posted, and I didn't see this warning light listed (I remember seeing somewhere a listing of all of the lights). This makes me sad :( Can anyone confirm this?

No idea about the warning light. As far as the fluids I am pretty sure that they are all topped off from the factory, except for the gas. The dealer just checks to make sure all fluid levels are good and if not then they add.

You could always remove the stock fluid. I've done that before when someone topped me off with water instead of wiper fluid.

Yea, they come in with everything but gas. I guess it's hazardous to ship things that can explode (insert extreme sarcasm). I will try that fluid though, I swear by rain-x.

This is what I did with my current car - but I just held down the switch and let it run until it was empty. Is there a faster way to do this?

Why waste good fluid and let it drain down? Just add yours when the factory juice runs out.

I'm not wasting "good" fluid... I'm wasting the fluid that I don't like because it doesn't do what I want

And with my fluid, you don't have to manually apply a Rain-X coating. The wipers do it for you

It's pretty interesting to see the difference when you're driving in the rain... the parts where the wipers touch, the water beads away... but the outer edges of the windshield are like normal. So I know it works

Plus it's only $3, so I'm not that concerned about "wasting" anything...

The factory only puts a small amount of washer fluid in it. The dealer has to fill it. It has a small amount of fluid so it can be tested before shipping. There is only about a gallon or two of gas in from the factory too. All the other fluids are full of course.

Some dealers don't check any fluids! According to GM, the fluids are topped up to spec. This doesn't necessarily mean its topped up. When you pick it up, at least check the oil level. Most cars I PDI are low on everything. GM doesn't want to pay for "add-on" things like fluids. Yet some dealers top every thing off.

When we PDI cars at work, Nissan Tech, we check levels and the only thing we fill is the washer fluid and gas it up. So there is a chance you can use your stuff from the get go. Just let the dealer know.

did you know thaqt rain x makes a product that you add to any washer fluid that will do the same thing?? as in apply the rain x. and i would guess you can add the stuff you like to the washer fluid tank with the other stuff ass you use it. but if i were you i would get some of that other stuff and use it first, than when it's gone add your other stuff. but if you don't want to do that just on hook the tank and dump it rather than pumping it all out. can't think that would be good for the pump, to run that long i mean.

Speaking of fluids...

Tell them to keep the bodily fluids out of it too! LOL
