I am removing mine (LS3) but I may install a remote cooler next year, From the local dealer I got a new uncut top radiator hose, block plug and oil cooler block off plate. Should save some pounds.

Someone tell me what the benefit is to deleting this?

Many have had leaks, is it an oil cooler or a coolant heater. This stock oil cooler is coolant cooled, not air cooled. It's just more clutter and weight under the hood.

gets rid of some usless junk and makes me engine look better. My tech said that it doesen't really cool anything as the hot radiator fluid is trying to cool hot oil, he said it doesn't make sense.

Hey guys. I am halfway through an oil cooler adapter install and just realized that I have to do what MaxKamai describes above. Doh!

To replace the factory T with something else, will any old 3 inch long coolant straight connector work? Any suggestions on a part number that would fit here?

For the GM large coolant plug, does anyone have a part number? Or if I call my local dealer, will they just know what it is I am talking about?

Thanks!

Pete

Whats funny is after I asked the question above I was under the car changing the oil and filter and wouldnt you know it my cooler is leaking. My motor is going to have to be replaced or rebuilt in the near future so I will delete this, put a new one on or go aftermarket. Whichever ends up being the most reliable setup.

Ok. Thanks guys!

Hey, does anyone know why the 2012 have a different rad hose, that doesn't have the T on it? I'm going to order it and replace mine when I delete the coolant loop. Just kind of curious as to what the 2012s do for oil cooling if they don't have that loop.

Wrapping up for today.

Oil cooler mounted, hoses routed through the side and into the engine bay. More later once I get the extra parts.

(EDIT: Whups, wrong thread, sorry)

I would NOT delete it. Run something aftermarket if you have to but I would not remove it completely. Those of you who have, have you scanned the engine oil temp? Not relying on the gauge as it isn't always accurate. The cars I have personally seen without them have run way too hot on oil temp.

The LS1 doesnt have one right? What are the temps without one? Are they much more than 220?

Would agree, especially if you run your car hard.

A lot of info on aftermarket oil coolers here:

What it is actually doing is bringing the engine oil up to temp faster as well as cooling the engine oil, sincce it gets a lot hotter than the coolant.

So the parts came in at the GM dealer today. I drain the coolant, then get under the car to take off the first attachment point, where the hose from the engine connects to the oil cooler. Can't get the nut to budge. See pic below. Does anyone know how these assemblies go together? The nut in question is center of the shot, with the black plastic thingy attached to it that has the yellow marking on it and the hard line hose coming out. Put a 12 inch crescent wrench on it and wailed away, no luck. Hit the wrench with a hammer, no luck. This thing might have some kind of locktite on it. Or, maybe the black piece unplugs somehow? Anyone have suggestions?

I have the car up on jack stands so have maybe 18 inches under the car to move. No way to get a huge breaker bar in there.

There is an even bigger nut up at the engine that will also have to come off - I'm afraid that if I can't even get this one off, I am screwed on the big one (with very little room to work).

Thanks for any ideas

Edit: Thanks for the PM blake-b. The black plastic thing slides back and exposes a small clip. Take off the clip, the hose pops right out (along with a gallon of coolant). Problem solved.
