Exhaust varying volume levels
Does anyone else find that the volume of their exhaust is not consistent? If all things in the car are the same (RPM, load, speed, gear, etc) and the only difference is time of day and outside temperatures, should the exhaust be louder one day than another?
For example, my exhaust can drone at 1600-1800 RPM under light load (maintaining speed up a hill). About 30% of the time it is headache inducing, the rest of the time there is no issue at all. I haven't found any correlation with time of day, with warm or cold engine starts, temperature, etc. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't. Bee is a 2010 2SS/RS with Kooks LT's, high-flow cats, and "sleeper" cat-back. Thoughts?

That is a bit odd to be honest. Especially if your not finding any correlation to the time of day or temperature cause that would of been my guess.

There are other things that can change noise in the car - what type of road are you driving on when it is headache inducing? Concrete causes a higher pitched noise you may not actively perceive, asphalt tends to cause a lower tone that may blend into the exhaust tone. A smooth road causes different noise levels than a grooved one. Could be the combination of tire noise with your exhaust tone causes it to be headache inducing but only under certain conditions.
As far as my exhaust, it is very consistent in terms of noise level |

I have noticed it tends to be "better" in the mornings, but it isn't always the case.
