The End is near!

Has anyone seen the news story about Ford moving towards all electric cars?

Here is the link: https://www.engadget.com/2018/07/09/...-ev-interview/

I thought they dumped all cars and were selling trucks only?

Per other articles, it'll be mostly hybrid trucks and SUVs over the next decade. Here in Texas (which I believe is their # 1 market) most trucks (of all brands) seem to be lifted and have a modified exhaust. Don't see this demo converting to hybrids anytime soon, but we shall see.

Self driving cars are really the way of the future. Not sure how I feel about that as, just like all of you, I enjoy driving. However, just like cars ran horses off the roadways (not exactly an apples to apples comp, but you get the idea...), one day our cars may not be allowed on public roadways. I'll likely be dead or too old to care by then. ;-)

If you have all "self driving" cars on the road, I wonder what the insurance will be for a stick, non-self driving car on the same road ?

I have a feeling that ours will be the last naturally aspirated Z/28, but not the last one. On Jay Leno's garage they had the 2020 Tesla Roadster: https://www.teslarati.com/tesla-next...-lenos-garage/ The article says the following, "capable of sprinting from 0-60 mph in 1.9 seconds, allowing it to do quarter-mile runs in 8.8 seconds. The next-gen Roadster’s top speed of over 250 mph, as well as its 200 kWh battery that gives it a range of 620 miles on a single charge,..."

When the price comes down I'm sure I'll get something like what is in the article in 10-15 years, but for now I wonder if we are the last to enjoy the sound of an powerful V8?

Any thoughts to the future of cars like the Z/28?

Well since my brother has had a Raptor in the Shop since June waiting on some Cam Sensor part or something...maybe they should go to electric.

Just got a text from him...

"Ford Caved."
"Getting a new truck."

The new Chevy Bolt will outrun our cars from 0-30. Prob won't be long before they can beat ours to 60 mph. However, they nor a Tesla can ever beat the feel and sound of an LS7 rumbling down the road while rowing through the gears while getting thumbs and big smiles from others.

5th gen Camaro SS, 0-30 is 2.2 seconds and the Bolt is 2.9. Or ~2 car lengths. And the Camaro will be moving at 40MPH by the time the Bolt hits 30.

0-60 / SS, 4.5; Bolt, 6.8. >12 car lengths. The Bolt would be going ~45 when the Camaro hits 60. If the Camaro didn't reduce acceleration at all (it needs a shift) it would hit 60 in 4.4 seconds. The Bolt would hit 60 in 5.8. But the Bolt isn't even close to hitting that mark and it doesn't need a shift. And the Camaro will be going ~80 when the Bolt reaches 60.

And there is no doubt the Z/28 is quicker than an SS.
So I wouldn't panic just yet.

Until oil companies buy up all the electric companies and big brother has a way of taxing you to death at recharging stations electric cars will not take hold.

Self driving cars are a different matter and i'd prefer to not trust a computer that can be hacked by some doofus chinese kid and drive me thru Walmarts front doors just for laughs. In another twenty years i'll be able to do that on my own.
