Muscle Cars
Just wanted to add to the question about muscle cars. The term muscle car was Never even used in the muscle car hey day. The muscle car term took effect in the mid 70s after factory hotrod party was over. Muscle car terminology was used when the car magazines began reminiscing about the era that had just passed to describe not camaros or mustangs, but was given to the larger intermediate sized cars like GTOs, RoadRunners, Chevelles, GSX's, Torinos etc. with big block engines giving big performance of the day in a straight line. Cars were measured in stock form with factory stock despite the fact that wheel spin all through first gear and part of second was normal and to be expected with the tire technology of the day. Anything in the 6 to 6.5 sec 0-60 range was quick and normal for the era, again despite the fact that wheel spin dug deeply into accurate times.
OK I said my piece on this historical fact. |
