Haven't seen this addressed by anyone yet but has anyone ever actually encountered hydrolock or otherwise damaged their engines from driving in the rain or through puddles after installing a CAI?

I was considering an Injen CAI but after reading their faq's on their website I don't know if it's worth the risk of blowing an engine for a little more power. Maybe in Arizona or New Mexico rain isn't a factor but it is in New England and my car is a daily driver.

Any thoughts on this?

You would literally have to drive into 3 feet of water to hydrolock the engine. If you're really worried just get a hydro-shield.

If you drive into 2 -3 feet of water with your Camaro, you deserve to have your engine hydro lock. The only person I ever heard who had a problem was the one who removed their wheel liner and was throwing water all over the intake outlet. I have had mine for over 33K miles, driven in some pretty heavy rain, and have never experienced any issues with water.

Not "worried" in the least as I could just leave it stock and still be happy, just wondering if anyone ever experienced it.

Now what if you installed an adm scoop would you be at a higher risk to get water in.

No. The ADM scoop has a slit in the back for water to go out.

Have the Injen CAI installed on mine and have encountered zero issues. As stated previously, you would have to drive through a heavily flooded area for the engine to ingest enough water to cause hydrolocking.

Both my lower scoops and mailslot scoop are as exposed as possible to the rain. I also live in MA and have had no problems. My car is also a daily driver and has seen some serious rain.

You don't have to drive into 2-3 feet of water to hydrolock it. I hydrolocked mine with the stock intake in about 8-12 inches of water. I was on my way to work and through the water was the only way...won't ever make that mistake again. Luckily insurance paid for a new LS3.

Gt the vararam, best intake for our cars.

As for the rain, after I installed it I took my garden hose (with the car off) and shot water into my grille and every angle I could to test it out. No water made it into the filter. Ive driven through heavy rain too, at high speeds, checked every time after with no significant water build up.

I only remember one guy with a V6 hydrolocking. Turns out he had cust a big hole in the fender liner and the front tire was throwing water right on the filter.
