Drag a completely stock '13 L99 2SS?
So, this question is actually twofold. Let me preface this by saying I am searching and learning bits and pieces here and there, but it would be nice to have it all in one thread.
I have a 2013 2SS/RS auto. Money is a bit tight right now, but I don't want to let that stop me from taking my car to the track once in a while. Suspension upgrades are still in research mode... but am wondering what I can get away with until then or should I just wait? I know getting away is a relative term as there's always a risk when you drag. Second, besides maybe axles, what else should I be looking at? My long term goal is somewhere between 600-700 rwhp... |

But i ran a 10.99, my best mph is 127.80, and my best 60ft is a 1.69. with over 80+ passes on my car with 620whp/600tq. The only upgrade i had were a twin disc clutch, axles (ds1400hp), and my twin turbo kit. My suspension and drive line were completely stock. Now i do know that the auto trans's is the weak point beyond 550whp. So you will have to budget for that. A trans cooler will prolong this though. hope that helps, but im sure the A6 guys will have better advice.

Suspension... Ha!
I went 9.80 with a stock suspension. Auto guys need not worry about changing those parts until you start going fast. |

I shattered my first one due to a one wheel peel at the track with sticky tires. Just destroyed my spider gears. So i went back to a stock one for the time being.

I did a little suspension for a magazine article, but it's not the first stuff needed for us L99 guys, might be different for the LS3 guys who can get wheel wheel hop.
So you make... 320RWHP stock. 600RWHP is another 280RWHP. If you want that formula, I'm sure the blower guys will tell you blower + cam + 3xxx triple disc stall converter + trans cooler + long tubes + catless mids + tune + MT drag radials. If you want to do some bolt-ons, an air intake + long tubes + tune + drag radials will net you 55RWHP and mid to low 12's. You'll go from a 13.3@105 car at the track to a 12.3@112 car.

You don't need any suspension parts until you get your blower and you have already done all your other bolt ons. Stock suspension is perfectly fine on an auto car. If you were manual I'd say yes it makes sense. Spend your money on headers, CAI, tune, and tires. That will give you the best bang for your buck early in the game.
Or nothing wrong with racing it stock! Wheel spin will be your weak point tho so to me, tires are high up on a drag racing priority list. |
