Muscle car = Big Block + Midsized Coupe, that is not what the Camaro or the Z/28 in current form is. A Chevelle SS396 is a Muscle car and the Camaro SS396 are pony cars with muscle car traits.
There are plenty of fast a$$ cars that are not Muscle cars, like the Camaro and the Grand Nationals but that does not make them any less cool. |

Still a pony car and no V6 for this Gen Z28.

I wouldn't consider it a muscle car, regardless of what engine it has. I consider it to be a pony/sports car.

Thanks,my American friends.
When i think deeper about the sort of soundbite coming out of central government,i fear the pressure being brought to bear on the Motor industry, will result in a more conservative way forward for the engine configuration/design dept. Dont think BP are helping my fears at all! |

The V8 is certainly going to be more of a premium option for future vehicles but this is a trend that has been ongoing since the 60's. GM will have a Gen V V8 out in a few years debuting in the C7 and Ford has recommitted itself to the V8 with the new 5.0. V8's as we know them will change. They will get more complex as they must adapt to a more fuel friendly automotive market and for us here in the US, CAFE. But as long as Ford builds a Mustang and GM a Camaro and a V8 is being produced both cars will have a variant with one.

Well, gentlemen (ladies) I have an opinion here. Being the former owner of many V8 GM "muscle" cars including Chevelle's, Impalas and of course a V8 Second Gen Camaro, I can say that my 2LT with a 6speed manual is VERY much a muscle car! It is slower on the quarter mile by .1 second than a 69 Z28 and this is not that big a difference. (see specs of the 69 Z28 below)
I must say that this is the best handling and safest muscle car I have ever owner and I enjoy it every bit as much and probably more as I can afford to drive this car DAILY as opposed to my second gen Camaro with a 5.7 litre 350 with a 4 speed muncie. Let's remember that this IS a rear wheel drive 300+ HP car regardless of the amount of pistons going up and down every revolution. Certainly that V8 sound is special, but we gotta "get over it" as the future of petrol is certainly a more expensive commodity. I would LOVE for the new Z28 to be a turbo V6, it sends the RIGHT message and assures the long term survival of the Camaro IMHO. I consider the current LLT V6 the "new" small block and the 6.2 LS3/L99 the new bigblock. Check it out: The 1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Specifications Wheelbase, inches: 108.1 Weight, lbs: 3,765 Number built: 20,302 Base price: $3,185 Top Available Engine Type: ohv V-8 Displacement, cid: 302 Fuel system: 2 x 4 bbl. Compression ratio: 11.0:1 Horsepower @ rpm: 290 @ 5800 Torque @ rpm: 290 @ 4200 Representative Performance 0-60 mph, sec: 7.4 1/4 mile, sec @ mph: 15.12 @ 94.8 Best2 all! eB

Who freakin' cares? I didn't buy any of my cars because of someone else's tag they've thrown at it. Ponycar or musclecar or sportscar. Is it going to make you sleep better at night?
Even the monster '70 Chevelle had a little Inline-6 and gutless 307 to go along with the massive 454/450 horse LS-6. |

Sports car definetly the Z/28 was Chevy's answer to compete in the SCCA events back in 1967. The Sports Car Club of America SCCA.
