Is the M6 shifter supposed to move around so much while driving?
Anyone notice how much the OE M6 shifter moves around while your driving?
I'll be getting a new short throw pretty soon, but it amazes me how much my stock shifter is moving all over the place while I'm driving. I'm going to jack it up and take a peak under there just to make sure everything is tight. To me it seems like the trans is just floating around. Every bump or accel/decel change my shifter wobbles around. Does a short throw shifter reduce all that wobbling from the bumps, or is that shifter wobbling caused by the real soft trans mount? I've had a lot of M6 GM cars and this is by far the most I've seen a shifter flopping around while driving. I'm not getting how a bump in the road makes the shifter move around. |

I noticed the movement with the stock setup. Never bothered me but I noticed it.
Since installing a short throw shifter (Barton Ind.) I don't notice it anymore. I'll try to pay attn on the way to work tomorrow. |

I have a m6 ss and mine does not move at all. If yours is moving that much I would take it in and have it looked at.

Don't know... I never touched the stock shifter. I had the MTI shifter since day 1.
I love the way the MTI shifter operates! |

After driving around all day, no movement. I would take it in to the dealer just to be safe.

If you are coming from a front driver into this car you will notice more shifter movement due to the shifter being direct mounted to the transmission. Most FWD cars that many of us are used too have a remote shifter and much less noise and vibration issues.

I'm coming from a C6 Corvette, before that a C5 Z06, before that more 4th gen F-bodies than I can remember. All Tremec 6 speeds.
I've never felt a trans flop around so much as this one. I'll jack it up tonight and make sure the trans mount is actually connected. Maybe I'm noticing it more than some because my roads here are like a bombed out moto cross track. If I put my hand on the shifter while accelerating over bumps, the shifter is flopping around. I just can't figure out how a suspension bump induces trans movement? On smooth roads I feel just the normal torque of the engine torqueing the trans and shifter over just a hair. But when I get into a bumpy road, I'm like Ray Charles trying to grab my shifter the stupid thing is flopping around so much. |

The shifters do flop around a bit. It is part of the NVH reduction. Not a big deal here guys. Look up from under the car and you will see the flex mounts and the counterweight designed to dampen the powertrain oscillations and vibrations. This is to help make the car smoother and quieter.

I have had my m6 ss for 6 months now and shifter barely moves at all. If yours moves that much you might want to have it checked out. Better safe than sorry.

mine does it too. i've had a 4th gen camaro, 2 different cobras, and this ss and they have all done it. Heck even my DD 97 cavalier does it and its FWD.

My stock shifter moved around a fair amount. I installed the MGW shifter today and the movement is now gone.
