Electric steering conversion Has anybody done it?
I did a search didn’t come up with anything. Has anybody swap the Electric steering out of a 14-15 into a 2010-2011? I was wondering if this can be done?
Thanks

I'm sure it can. Lots of swapping parts, pump, steering rack, sensors, computer updates...and what not. In most cases, if the electric steering goes bad, you cannot steer at all. Why do you want to swap?

Clean up the engine bay and make more room. The plug on the motor just two o rings it looks like power and ground. Not like a plug with multiple wires. I was thinking the computer didn’t see it maybe. Just a idea

Edit: I'm sure if you found a donor vehicle it would make the swap easier.

I'm thinking the control system issues are not worth trying to overcome. Sounds like a can of worms.
Besides, hydraulic power steering gives you more feedback through the steering wheel. |

I wondered about electronic steering from the first time I heard it existed. If it's true that the electric steering can go bad and cause complete loss of steering how can this even be considered for vehicles? Scary to me. I just seems like some systems should be designed to work to some degree (steering, brakes) even with engine off. Can you steer electronic steering with the engine off and if not how do you move the vehicle around when it's broke down?

With the electric steering, it's just electric assisted. If the power to the rack fails for any reason, you can still steer, it's just like normal power steering if the pump fails.
Steering still functions, it just takes more effort. |

I think the only real benefit would be to maybe get that 5hp back that the hydraulic system robs (and space, like you said), other than that I would prefer the feel and reliability of the older style steering.

I would stick with the hydraulic steering myself. Getting rid of the p/s pump will not clean up the engine compartment much as the elec. steering cars have an idler pulley in its place. Next thing is when things go wrong I am sure that the elec. steering is more costly to repair. Just my opinion.
