Thanks. Been getting a ton of Ti work recently. Had the certs for years, just takes a while to get it out there that you can do it. Most have little clue what goes into doing it right. When done right, it's a material that has so many pluses to offer. It comes anything but cheap though.
And just last week...

Not my first dealing with Titanium either
I have seen good and bad. I have an acquaintance that moved here from Japan that started importing Ti exhausts and rear sets (Baby Face/Sato) for superbikes years ago. I have used them on two different motorcycles and it takes time to get it right. Then add the factor of how it looks. Many on here have probably never even attempted to weld, let alone titanium and doing it cleanly.

Ti Welding is not a skill but more of a art form that takes years to perfect. He have welders that do a lot of aircraft work here.

I don't remember why everything fell apart but I never ended up with titanium exhaust. I have a 3" magnaflow system that is lighter and quieter than the stock system. At this point it is working well for me. If I could have had the titanium system built so I didn't have to buy another 3" system I would have.... when I have the car torn apart and I'm trying to get it together for a racing event then I have deadlines. When I needed a 3" system none of the ti guys could get it to me in time.

Ya but isn't that the whole point of the Z/28....to go to the extremes of weight savings to maximize times at the track?

Actually the exhaust was potentially a pretty good return on the dollar as far as weight loss. If you look at Carbon fiber fenders that cost thousands and save you less than 10 pounds, or things like racing plexiglass that cost over $1K and save 8 pounds.... I have my ZL1 under 4200 pounds and it has a supercharger, twin turbos, roll cage, many extra cooling upgrades. If you can save 1 pound per $100 invested it is pretty much a bargain.

It's priorities in my mind. The same type of person that complains about spending that on an exhaust, will spend double that amount on engine upgrades and not bat an eye. I won't even mention engagement rings and vacation trips to appease the wives and the money spent there! |

That's mighty expensive to spend $5k on 20lbs. You can take out the backseats and save just as much, for free... Quote:
