tops frame lube?

Has anyone ever lubed the joints on the convertibles top frame?
Or is it a good idea?
Is it possible to do without getting it on the canvas?

That's a good question. I always wondered that myself when I look at it folding and unfolding.

Mine squeaks now and then over bumps, so one day I put the top half way up and sprayed a bit of WD40 on all the joints. Next time I took it for a drive the squeaks were gone. They came back about a month later. So I need to reapply.

PS it doesn't squeak constantly, just when you hit something big, like going over railroad tracks.

My thoughts are that WD would dry the joints out.
I was thinking of something with more lubricating qualities , like white grease.
The trick would be not getting it on the interior liner.

Maybe vaseline

Mine does the SAME THING..I wonderful if silicon grease/lube would work better? it would probably get on the fabric....

I would think a dry lubricant like graphite would work better.

Google, CRC Dry Grhapite Lube, 10 oz Aerosol can, Black

Convertible Top Maintenance

I have done a lot of research on this as I have owned several rag tops over the years.

One thing I can assure you, WD40 is a very bad lube. It should really only be used as a cleaner as it actually dissolves grease and only lubes temporarily.

Get your self a can of White Lithium grease and make sure to apply it carefully on metal parts only.

Here is a video:
