Question Will Chevy Strike Back?

It is no doubt that the 2010 Camaro seemingly caught the Ford folks off guard. The Camaro came in and gave the mediocre mustang a brutal smack down of epic proportion, beating the mustang in just about every way. Embarrassingly enough for the Ford guys, the V6 Camaro produced about the same horsepower as the "GT" V8 mustang.

However, as I know many of us are aware, the 2011 Mustang GT will be packing the 5.0, an engine already proving itself more efficient in HP/liter and in fuel economy. Ford gave the engine a rating of 412 horsepower and 390 lb/ft. Motor Trend has done the dyno and confirms that the engine is producing more like 430 horsepower and about 400 lb/ft. It appears as if Ford has picked up the broken pieces of the 05-10 V8 and molded them into a world beater with the 5.0, a Camaro beater for sure when you consider the mustang weighs hundreds of pounds under the Camaro. It took Ford a year to put out a car that places the Mustang at the top of the food chain again. Im embarrassed to find myself eating my words that I spoke to mustang fans about a year ago.

Does Chevy have the will, or the power (considering partial government ownership and all) to continue waging a war with the mustang? Or did we as Camaro fans have our year of glory only to be second best now?

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I really don't give a flip what Chevy or Ford do. I don't care if I have the fastest car in it's class.

I bought a '10 Camaro because it's (like me) dead sexy.

I'd rather have 1 year of glory than ever owning the new Mustang.

* I did restore a 67 Mustang....but it was for the wife!

I didn't buy the Camaro for whats under the hood (though it was a plus), but rather the over all package.

i remember someone working for chevy putting it like this: the mustang is fords camaro AND corvette meaning they can put more effort in it while chevrolet has to concentrate on both. with the camaro just finished off they are working on the new corvette and cannot immidatly respond to ford. but they will respond soon, they have many plans for the camaro apparently

it was Fbod father that said this btw, i remembered half way typing it

Maybe Chevy will "find" more power in the 2011 SS like they did for the 2011 V6

Hahahahaha. I'm afraid it will take more than that! Just like the "found" power in the V6 still won't allow the V6 Camaro to compete with the mustang on the street.

Well I bought the car for whats under the hood.

That being said, I love my Camaro, and am glad I bought it and am modding it.

Great job on the 5.0 though, ford. Its a good time to be a muscle car fan.

Interesting opinion, but many consumers, like me, are pretty tempted by more horsepower, less weight, better fuel economy, and better technology (SYNC).

I agree the Camaro still looks considerably better, but the mustang looks pretty good, and there are lots and lots of people that think it looks better.

Non that aren't current Stang owners, One guys did a poll, the camaro went 10 for 10, I bet nationwide it would be like 7 for 10
