AnyBody Know When The Dark Tail Lamps Will Be Available?

I definitely want to get these, having the rear black bowtie already getting a set of the dark tail lamps will really bring the back end together, BUT, when Will They be available? This Spring?

Anybody know for sure?

When and if they release something like that the lenses will not be anywhere near that dark as by law the red has to show but that will be easily fixable by some aftetmarket tint as on the 5th gen. However the rest of the lens could be dark, so hopefully these get released.

They are coming out and they already have a part number. They are supposedly pretty dark when not lit up. http://gmauthority.com/blog/2015/08/...ies-previewed/

We'll see, I still say the lenses themselves will be very similar to the OEM RS lenses on the 5th which was only slightly darker then OEM (non RS). In that pic there is no red reflection. They can't release something to dark as to block the red reflection as they will not pass approval with who ever it is that approves stiff like that.

Now having said all that, I HOPE they look exactly like as it would save me time from doing something illegal to my taillights (like my 5th gen) but I highly doubt it.

I think tinting the current taillights is the cheaper option

Well it certainly will be. Given the size I'd bet these will run in the $500-700 range (for a pair) if not purchased at time of build. I'm assuming each side is one whole piece that's how I'm coming up with that price.

Where as tint will be less the $100.

They have already been on display. The tail light/brake light is not obscured. It is simply a dark surround.

And that's exactly how I'd think I would be.

Why not do them Yourself? A buddy of mine works in a Bodyshop and does them all the time. He takes clear and adds just enough black basecote to it to tint it and sprays LIGHT coats until he gets the tint level he wants. The only downside is you can't go back if you get it to dark.

Hey

I still don't want to have to give a cop a personal demonstration, they have nothing better to do in my town.... 2,000 pop 3 cops on duty at same time.... two will sit at either end of town right at speed limit sign and one patrols the middle, please go chase a squirrel

Because if GM would be able to release something like in the pic it would be street legal, that's the main reason. Having already gotten a ticket for mine I'd like to avoid another.

But GM can't (at least on the lense) so most (like myself) will be doing a DIY.
