Creating custom interior knee and door bolster pads

Has anyone here used the base plastic knee and door pads to create custom ones? From what I have read the leather / alcantara ones offered by Chevy are not really padded, and do not provide extra comfort over the hard plastic ones.

I was looking to add my own padding and wrap them in a fabric of my choice.
Similarly I was thinking of doing the same to the arm rest.

Is there any how-to articles to follow to do this?

I found these DIY videos to create them:

Our own fellow member @kropscamaro16 offers full service for this kind of work, check out his thread here.

He started with center console armrests, now he does kneepads as well, and judging from his photos and feedback, the quality is excellent. I'd give him a chance to amaze

Anyone with the plastic kneepads has a blank canvas they are all the same, material of choice, 60 grit sandpaper to rough up the plastic and some spray adhesive

I spent $25 to cover my knee pads with some felt backed pleather. They look a lot better than the crappy black plastic and have some semblance of softness.

I will say there’s a learning curve…..the first three went pretty well, with the fourth requiring 3 do - overs. So, all and all about four hours. Adding padding or a thick stiff material will make the job more difficult. As well, if you have minor slack at the edges, they’ll look worse when you slide them on.

If I had to do it all over again, I’d probably have Krops or a local upholsterer create something custom…IE stripes, mix of materials, different color stitching etc.
