Car broken into

Tonight in a public parking lot, when we came out the car had been broken into. The dash message displayed 'Breakin Attempted' when I put the key in. There were NO signs of break in anywhere and all my glovebox and console stuff was thrown onto the passenger and drivers seat.
No scrathes anywhere on windows, etc. How did they get in?

The security system was enabled, by locking the car when we got out, which also gave the 'Breakin Attempted' message - would not have got that had the car not been locked when we left it.

A local policeman told me crooks have cellphone enabled frequencies that can at times trip car door lock systems, but if this was the case, would the car have seen that as an 'attempted breakin' ? I assume if a keyless system was used to unlock the doors, the security system would have been disabled, correct ?

VERY PISSED right now and would love to get a hold of who did this, but no damage to the car is evident. Going to Chevy tomorrow to try to get a few answers on how a break in was done with no obvious window scratches, etc. and the security system logging a breakin.

Any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Wow, sorry to hear it. At least they were careful and did not damage anything.

I have heard that some people have scanners that can pickup your code when you leave your car and hit your arm button. For this reason Viper and other alarms code jump.

This is the reason I plan on getting an aftermarket alarm like Viper or Autopage.

You think so ?
I figured someone looking for specific items, cash, etc. maybe even kids, but how did they get in ???
With the security system enabled, the horn must have been going off and lights flashing, but nowadays does anybody do anything when that happens, not likley, even the police said that.

I had Low Jack installed, that way if the car is stolen, it can be quickly located.

Does the car say theft attempted when the alarm goes off? And if someone were really trying to break in, wouldn't the car's alarm be going off until the battery died?

My 4th gens alarm would go off when a loud thunder would happen or a car or truck revved up loud and stop after a few honks. But when you would lock the door and unlock it from the inside, the alarm would go off until I deactivated it.

I would say something just disturbed the car? Could have been someone breaking in or getting too close and bumped it, or a loud noise vibrated the whole car. I don't know, keep us updated!

After closer inspection, found the drivers side door lock on the handle ripped open.
It's busted up and twisted in the handle. I did'nt notice when I used the handle getting in, but in the garage, just found it.
Pricks.

Dang man that sucks. Someone stole my brother's old GMC Sierra a few years back. They messed up both door handles like that breaking into it. Then broke the steering column and used a screw driver to start it.

So insurance covers that right?
