I bet it is still tri-lobe. This is what the did for the LT4 over the LT1

“The biggest challenge was the fuel pump itself,” explains Lee, noting that other exotic DOHC powerplants have up to four pumps to serve the fuel system. “With only one pump we had to increase the size and displacement to handle 625-plus horsepower worth of fuel.”

GM increased the piston size in the pump but didn’t have to change the tri-lobe cam design that drives the pump.

I think you are probably right. I am buying the cams to see if I think there is a significant gain to be had. If there it looks like there is I will probably do some custom grinds, including trying 4 lobes.

They were so cheap after the discount, I ordered the intake cams, too. I probably don't need them, but at least we can confirm they fit and put them on a wheel to get the specs.

Less than $80 ea for the intake cams after my discount. Not bad at all. The custom ones are probably going to cost a lot.

Yeah, there are definitely cheaper places to get them from. The whole set is about $160 cheaper as priced out on gmpartscenter.net

Interesting to think there could have been a different cam we could have been running all along?? I don't know if you can (or want) to cancel the intake cams coming in light of this info... It would still be interesting to see if there is a difference in the cam profile.

Yeah, I am going to get them just so we can check fitment and have the profile.

Anxiously awaiting some info... Do you know the duration on the current cams? I can't find it anywhere.

No, we will put the wheel to those first since they are still in the heads.

Food for thought.....

"the heads are sealed to the block with a multilayer-steel (MLS) gasket design that will withstand higher cylinder pressures, and contribute to a lower 10.2:1"

Hopefully the LF3 cams still make sense to convert to. Can you check the exhaust cam numbers and reference them across the other vehicles?

Another crazy thought I had... I wonder if any gains could be had if a guy was to just run the LF3 intake N/A, along with the intercoolers to cool incoming air? An external reservoir of water could be run for the intercoolers, toss some ice in it for some REALLY cool air... Move the IAT into the center of the LF3 intake... Not sure if it would be worth while or not?

maybe something like this?

The exhaust cam part numbers do not come up in any other production vehicle like the intake cam numbers do.
