Clutch installation, $2085???

My clutch has been slipping for about a week. Took it to a place up here and for Clutch, pressure plate, throwout bearing they want $2085. Does that sound high? And thats to machine the flywheel. Doesnt that seem high? Anyone else around here recommend a better price? Northern KY, Cinci area. PS, I can't do it myself. Its not an option. 2010 V6. 106,000 miles. Thanks.

Are the replacement parts stock items? If it's an aftermarket clutch, that price might be about right. For stock pieces though, I'd say it is a bit high.

That price actually sounds pretty decent, but shop labor prices here are $170/hr. +5-10% for shop supplies.

My neighbor just had a clutch replaced in his Hellcat at the stealership.

$4500.00

Considering that two grand doesn't sound terrible?

4500 dollars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 good lord. I'm 62 years old, i'll lay on my back for a week and do it myself for that price and 170 dollars an hour. holy crap!!!! ive been out of circulation too long. spend 500 dollars on service manuals and read. do that stuff yourself if you can. whew!! that just blows my old feeble mind.

Who the heck goes to the stealer to have their clutch replaced? Must have been a warranty repair or something.

Yeah, a Hellcat I could see easily compared to my v6 lol.
And to who asked, they are aftermarket.
Another shop later quoted $2600 on account he couldn't get a kit without the flywheel.

I wonder if the money I saved was from going to a dedicated transmission shop? I have to assume if you're rebuilding automatics all day, a manual is a piece of cake.

Good parts prices and a lower labor cost. Depending on where you go labor could be as high as 100/hour or more

shops that charge a low hourly rate make up the profits lost on parts mark up. not only that but a shop that has low manpower will add the profits lost on tying up a mechanic for 5-6 hours when that same mechanic could bang off 10-15 hrs in flat rate small jobs during that same time frame.
When I quote a job that would take profits away from another gig at that needs to be done at the same time or if I simply don’t want to do it I quote high hoping the customer goes elsewhere but if they choose to go ahead then it becomes a bonus worth doing.
Don’t know the whole story, your slave and throughout bearing could be toast too adding up costs.
Do you have a relationship with this shop?
Anyway it sounds like another reason to do repairs yourself, sounds like its a good time to start.
If ur totally useless mechanically check craigslist and find a mechanic advertising for work, do it with him and learn.
Most jobs are easier then they look, people just get overwhelmed visualizing things they haven’t seen. simplify the process by putting it in several steps instead of a big one. it’s not that bad/hard.

For the record I’m not an automotive mechanic, I have several other trades that I use together in repairing cnc machines, automation and process control systems.
